Evelyn Evelyn – Sandy Fishnets Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm dying to know what happened to Sandy when she "disappeared". Sadly, I'm under the impression they killed her. Maybe not. It's entirely possible they sent her away. But the mystery of her absence leads me to believe something more sinister. Also, Evelyn fantasizes about her "soaring over the sea...". This and the whimsical nature of the music that accompanies this section of the song brings to mind a sort of heaven or eternal state of rest...wherein Sally is finally where she belongs for good.

Elliott Smith – Drive All Over Town Lyrics 19 years ago
I was under the impression that she (mother) tried to leave or would try to leame him (step-father). But that he would find her no matter where she went (track her down) with a persistence that borders dangerous obsession and possessiveness.

Elliott Smith – Don't Go Down Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't think he was referring to the girl when he said "snowball in hell". I think he was saying that the fact that he met a girl was a snowball in hell. You know, like when someone says, "That'll happen when hell freezes over."? He apparently doesn't meet girls he likes often, the point to which he renders the event the equivalent of hell freezing over.

Elliott Smith – A Distorted Reality Is Now a Necessity to Be Free Lyrics 19 years ago
I still haven't decided what I think the rest of the song means. But when Elliott sings, "a distorted reality is now a necessity to be free..." I think of Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar". In it Esther Greenwood lived in a distorted reality, in a bell jar where the outside world was alien and strangley configured. I wonder if by saying this, Elliott was hinting toward a possible suicide (the only way to truly "be free" from the distorted reality in which he lived).
