Cool, my girlfriend just pointed out to me that it references "Dead End" as well as "The First Single." "I'm finding flaws in everyone"/ "We sit and find the flaws in everyone." Guess Dog Problems was written later than Dead End... |

I'd say it's definitely doubting religion. Nate writes about that a bunch, but I think this song is where he states it most clearly.
Also, it seems like he switches perspectives, everything before the second "I float" is from the guy's perspective, and the rest is from the girl's. Just a guess, but it makes sense to me. And if so, the guy messed her up pretty bad, and possibly was the one to cause her to question her religion. |

I'm thinking (though I have no proof) that the female vocalist is Maria Taylor. She's touring with him now, and she does vocals on a few songs off the Four Winds EP. She has a great voice. |

According to the main Wilco lyric site I go to (bemydemon.org), the lyrics after the "heavy part" are:
I know you've got a god-shaped hole
You're bleeding out your heart full of soul
I think those might be accurate, and even if they aren't, I really really like them. Great song. |

re: the crazy electric guitar
That's one of my favorite things about this album. I love how a song can be quiet, peaceful etc. and then have the guitar come in and completely change it. While this song does that well, the best is definitely "Springfield". When the guitar comes in after the first chorus, it's absolutely amazing. |

The instrumental bit after "make some noise" still gives me chills when I listen to it. Few other songs can do that. |
