One element of the song is the hipocricy of not caring about the animals hunted and slaughtered many times over than then animals are killed in the wild, feeling pity for a mouse while you chop up a dead lamb. The rest of the song talks about the how we kill and destory nature and the animals. |

| Crass – Punk Is Dead Lyrics | 19 years ago |

In a lot of place, punk is very dead, and is a mere fashion statement. I talked to a "punk" who is a aquatance in my class, asked him where he got a cool looking patch, and I hear "hot topic." I thinks hes a cool kid and all that shit, but hes exactly what destoryed the "punk" culture. I can obviously say that he dosen't plan on becoming an activist, but I would bet money hes just going to end up another aveage bissunessman. "Anarchy for sale" and "chickenshit conformist" are too other songs with similar meanings to this one. Even the "real" punk scene thats still alive, in my area the "crusty" kids, the've lost that "anything goes" ethic. They may know thier shit, may be vegan, and acctally not plan on selling out when they grow up, but I really dislike that you need to have patches and wear all black to fit it. If you've even seen old footage of a punk show, everbody was dressed almost "normal," usally just a band t-shirt and jeans/shorts. Maybe a wierd haircut here and there. They didn't need to wear patches all over and studs (Personally, I hate studs, as all those "punks" love to wear them on leather) to know that they we're punks. They were secure enough in thier idently. I have no problem with wearing patches, hell, I love patches. But when that becomes a requirement, I do. The media and MTV will always have corprate punk bands. But punk can survive. To quote Jello and the DKs "We can start by not lying so much and treating other people like dirt." |
