| Wakey!Wakey! – Car Crash Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This is a really sad song. The "car crash" is obviously a metaphor for the end of a relationship. The metaphor can be interpreted beyond what is expressed in the song itself (e.g. They were both in the moving car, aka relationship, before it came to an unexpected stop). While the girl is "thrown clear" from the car (a safe distance away from the wreckage of their relationship), the singer is left trapped inside, consumed by the flames (grief) and unable to escape (move on). There's a certain bitter tone; "...just because you're bleeding / you think that I'm not bleeding". She assumes he doesn't share her pain but they were both hurt by the crash and he is the one left to burn in the wreckage, while they can easily recover and move on. That's my interpretation, anyway... |

I think this might be a statement about the demos that leaked in January, hence the generic 'Untitled' (all 9 tracks were, of course, untitled). In a recent interview with Kerrang, Jesse commented on how the leak had upset and angered him. In the official forums, a lot of members have been speculating about how "scary" this song is- some have even said it contains low bass notes that instill fear in the listener. Perhaps this is Jesse's response to those responsible for the leak and even those who downloaded it. The quality of the recording is quite poor, a lot of people have discovered voices and laughter in the background and, all in all, it's quite messy (random harmonics, feedback, words repeated in a strange tone). Remember, in 'Failure By Design', Jesse sung the words "We don't believe in filler"- if this messy arrangement of feedback, guitars and voices is not filler, it must have some significance. Thoughts? |

Every song on 'Sunsets & Car Crashes' is quite similar to the songs on 'I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning' but this song is particularly similar to the style of Bright Eyes. I think the meaning of this song has been clarified by several users already but...I like how the lyrics progress from "I eternally apologize" to "she easily towers over you". There's a real sense of confusion and contradiction in these lyrics- initially he seems to blame himself ("I eternally apologize") then, with the entry of the female singer, the blame seems to be shared and the feeling is quite mutual. By the end of the song, "she easily towers over you" seems to suggest that he is laying the blame entirely on her (judging from the nature of the lyrics). I'm sure you all agree. ;) |
