| Jason Mraz – Please Don't Tell Her Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It doesn't sound like he really misses her at all. It sounds like he's trying to let a bad relationship go. "Don't tell her I miss her, because I don't." He found her, was amazed by whatever skill she possessed, the relationship ended, and now he wants to let go. I think he's trying to be nice about it to her, so he has to say the slightly crueler things in a song (e.i. behind her back). Kind of makes me laugh. |

| Incubus – I Miss You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| My boyfriend and I see eachother every few months or so, so I'm pretty sure I can relate. I miss him like no other, and it always hurts the most in the days right after he leaves. I haven't slept next to him in so long. I miss him. And I love this song. | |
| The Almost – Stop It Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It comes across to me like he's frustrated with the girl trying to help him... Like he's saying "Okay... this isn't my fault... will you just stop, please? Stop trying to fix me." Especially because it doesn't appear to be her problem to fix. In the first verse, it's almost like he's mocking her: "I’ll make a change so that you want me more". And then he goes on to say: "Is this really my idea?" Eben when he says "It's true I failed/But your love covers me", he follows it with "Is this really my idea?". I don't really think he loves her. I think he's too confused about himself to deal with anyone else. |

| I just think its funny that this song came on the radio as my boyfriend was smoking pot in his car. | |
| The Almost – Everyone Here Smells Like a Rat Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It really wouldn't surprise me if this were another song based on Christ. Except, sometimes, like in the second verse: "My precious boy I know how hard this really must get/Just come down, just get off", I think it might be Aaron writing from Christ's perspective. Which is why it's modernized with the bit about the car right after that. Think about when/if you go to church: "Everyone here knows how important this is/Your faces make them look so serious/It will make them strong enough". Jesus' face makes them look so serious, because it's a serious endeavor to them. But the next line: "You’ll never be strong enough"- that's all the doubt that comes along with religion. Notice how it's in the beginning of the song, but not the end. That line is left out, like he's finding himself through the song. "I lived in grace, we’ll make you leave the ground."- Part of loving/worshiping Christ is lifting His name on high- hence making Him leave the ground. And you do that how? By living in grace. Yay! Doubt returns though: "All of us here hate what we feel from you/We’re not signified but we know what’s true." Aaron could be talking about Jesus, or about the non-believers, depending on how you look at it. But he comes back with "You have to be strong enough/Everyone here." Yep, everyone. Wow... thats a lot of analysis... sorry, guys. |

| The Rocket Summer – Cross My Heart Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I totally agree with trifledmemory. It is about two best friends. My best guy friend in the world, this is his song. We've been through so much together, and had so many hard times. The lyrics "all that stuff you used to take... I'm glad you threw it all away". He was on anti-depressants, and still is, but it reminds me so much of him. Later on, "cause back in school, man that gets cruel. But one thing is true, man, now look at you- your heart is big enough for two." That's totally him. Before he moved here in 7th grade, he was ridiculed and made fun of. He had no friends and was miserable. He endured all of that, and now he has one of the biggest hearts I've ever seen in anyone. I wouldn't trade him for the world "because happy is all that he makes me". "I know everything went wrong, okay. But now it's time to get some better days." |

| Regina Spektor – Samson Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I like the idea of the woman in the song being compared to someone that came before Delilah. If, in fact, the song is about the man in the Bible called Samson. Some aspects lead one to suspect that the girl is Delilah, but it really doesn't fit. Through reading the comments, though, I think that it really could be someone in Samson's life BEFORE Delilah. Delilah got all the credit, and was in the Bible and the history books, but the woman that really loved Samson, that really made him who he was, was never given her due. If that's the case, the scenario can be transfered to anyone. Regina could have been the woman before "Delilah", the one who helped "Samson" discover himself. A girl wants some sort of recognition for that, I know. And when he left, or (as we are lead to believe) immediately moved on to someone else, she was crushed. The part that really doesn't tie in, at least to me, is the two or so lines about the columns. The only thing I can really come up with is that they were "Samson"'s shield, his protection against vulnerability. The woman tried so hard to break them (even by cutting his hair) but it just didn't work- again, it was "Delilah" who got the credit, because "Samson" cracked with her when she, in fact, didn't do any of the work. |

| Dashboard Confessional – The Secret's In The Telling Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Okay, so I saw Dashboard live last night, and never really got this song until I saw Chris sing it live. He's talking about an affair, making love to someone he's not supposed to. I feel like they're hiding from their parents, because at that age, sexual desires should be kept a secret. So they have this awesome night ("I won't sleep if you won't sleep tonight"), and keep it between themselves. And they come to know each other so well through this experience that they can talk to each other without words, without paper. Oh, yes- One of their greatest songs. Personally, I like his old stuff better, before he had the whole back-up band thing going on. But Chris never loses his style. He's so great on stage, and he draws the crowd in so much. You understand so much just by watching him. It's really a once in a lifetime experience (unless, of course, you go more than once. :) ) |

| The Spill Canvas – Black Dresses Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Okay, so I can see the whole "losing your virginity" thing applying here. It makes sense. Just want to point out one thing, to add to that theory. In the first verse where he says "In muddy grass we stand side by side with our knuckles interlocked Black dresses flood the cemetery in this cliche tragedy", you have to think about the cliche tragedy part... It's not just his funeral he's standing at (or the funeral of his youth, I should say)- it's every other adolescent's too. A mass funeral... where they all come to grieve over that particular loss. That's why he says it's so cliche. |

| The Spill Canvas – 3685 Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Okay, so, definitely a song that most people can relate to. We've all had that first love, and have essentially moved on, at least in the most surfaceable ways. Subconsciously, though, a lot of us are still stuck. "We were both selifish" Selfish of what though? Eachother? They wanted the other to only be theirs? Or selfish of themselves? They were both incredibly set in their own ways, and it interfered with the relationship? Personally, I'm leaning more towards the latter, because he apologizes earlier in the song. He thanks her for showing him "parts of himself that he had never seen". I think, in certain respects, that every first love does that. I know mine did, and I did the same for him. And then comes the last two verses... "You seem like such a big part of my life and my heart. But the truth is that I've found someone new. And she easily towers over you". My take? He feels indebted to her, because she did so much for him. He's thanking her again and again, but in the end, realizes that he doesn't have to stay with her forever. In the beginning of the song, I think he was under the disallusion that no one else could do for him what she had done. Then, he discovers that he was wrong, and part of the reason that she taught him so much was because of their age. I think he's almost surprised when he finds someone better, but he learns not to have a problem admitting it because of all the things he's already confessed in the lyrics. Yeah... great song. |

| Cute Is What We Aim For – Lyrical Lies Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The first time I heard this song, all I was was confused. But I think now I'm going to pay attention to some of the stuff that others haven't really commented on. “don’t waste your time with politics” he said “just chase skirts instead” Don't waste your time with politics... Wow. Okay, so the old man, whether literal of figurative, is telling him to stop worrying about everyone else (politics) and get back to the basics- trying to find love. The world is too swept up in itself. "and your lids are your best canvas I can only imagine what your painting" He's obviously talking about her dreaming, right? She must have an incredibly creative mind, and the best comes out in her subconscious. And his too, evidently, because he can't seem to say anything of importance directly to her face. Awake face, at least. "And your body on my mattress is proof And your makeup on your pillow is proof" Proof of what? Proof that he loves her? That she loves him? Is he fooling himself with such material gestures as that? After all, isn't it really all just "lyrical lies"? |

| The Spill Canvas – Self-Conclusion Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I love the chorus - "We all flirt with the tiniest notion, of self conclusion in one simplified notion". It's quite true too. And I love how he words it "self conclusion". Can you get any better? | |
| The Spill Canvas – All Hail The Heartbreaker Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It's the classic "boy likes girl. girl isn't interested" but put in a really good way. One more thing for everyone to relate to. I love how he realizes that she's just another girl, normal, average... but, in her own way, is definitely not like everyone else. That's amazing. |

| Brand New – Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It gives new perspective. Whenever you hear about this kind of situation, it's always the girl in the awkward position. She's always the one being controlled and dominated. But here, that's definitely not the case. He's so nervous, but it makes everyone relate; even the girls. The chorus is amazing-- "Up the stairs, the station where, the act becomes, the art of growing up". That's SO TRUE, especially in today's society. We (as teenagers) feel like it's all about sex. Kudos to the ones realizing that it's definitely not. |
