this song is amazing, i always thought it said "like a virgin prom queen at a homecoming dance" and i feel like those lyrics would be even more ironic? but i've read the cd jacket and listened closely, and it is bad tempered, obviously. that's just my two cents.
this song kind of represents beauty and sadness at the same time, there's lots of irony and oxymoron type things in it, similar to a lot of their songs.
you can't even call modest mouse emo, that's fucking bullshit. old modest mouse likes defines indie. |

i think this song is about urbanization and pollution, the countryside is being built up by concrete and buildings, and the ocean is being polluted with oils and such, and there's really no way to escape all of it, as it gets harder and harder just to drive out to the country and enjoy the scenery |

this is actually an old Kool Moe Dee song that Marc restyled into a rock epic. it's like The Who's "Tommy", but with less tights and more arpeggio piano lines. this was a favorite to play live. marc would fall down sometimes. marc fell down alot actually.

This part seems like an LSD hallucination, but as far as I know, fear before doesn't do lsd, at least i sure hope not. i'd probably stop listening to them iof they did.
This is one of my favorite songs on the new cd, which doesn't impress me as much as the old stuff. |
