| Is this any reference to Beatles/John Lennon? Has anyone heard any interviews explaining anything? Hello Goodbye is always equated to the Beatles. | |
| Oingo Boingo – Whole Day Off Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think maybe it's just about one of those days where everythings odd or working against you and you wish you'd have just stayed home from work. But that's really blatant and probably not right. | |
| Misfits – We Are 138 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"These are all interesting theories, but I know the real story...and you should too. Simply enough, "We Are 138" is a sci-fi song, based heavily on George Lucas' first sci-fi movie "THX-1138." It's about a time in the future when people are known by numbers instead of names. Consider the lyrics: "Do you think we're robot clean... Does this face look almost mean... Is it time to be an android, not a man?" Not convinced? Read what The Misfits themselves have to say. Jerry has answered the question many times. Below is part of an interview by Chris Schneberger form July '96: Chris: What is the true meaning behind '138'? Jerry: '138' is like people being treated as androids where you have a number instead of a name, so it's like the human number would be 138. Chris: Was that in a movie?...George Lucas' first film?..."THX-1138"? Jerry: There you go. But I mean, it's taken from that and that's pretty much what it is. We had buttons made once, they were robots with '138' that looked half human/android kinda things, long before your Terminator or stuff like that. It's a really good song, I mean, '138', it's great all the way around. Former guitarist Bobby Steele had an interesting twist on this story: "This has got to be Glenn's biggest joke on his fans. He told me it was from the book "I, Robot" and that there was a character named '138' in it. We used to have badges with a picture of a robot with '138' on his forehead. I wonder is Jerry has one, or remembers it. I have the book, but there is no such character. It just shows the occasional brilliance of the guy (Glenn Danzig). This'll keep people talking for years. He used to tell us that if someone asked what it meant, we should just laugh, and in a mocking tone say 'What? you don't know?'"" Taken from [http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=343689] |

| Actually, not just Californian music. | |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dani California Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I don't know if anyone else noticed this or not, but this song is meant to be catchy. The video clues us in on all of what's happening with the song. The song is supposed to be a general story of Californian music throughout the past few decades. The ups and downs of the songs, the solo, everything musical in it, is very similar to other popular songs of other eras. Just listen to it again and compare it to some songs. This is actually a great and well made song, if you look at it that way. And it has to be fun for the guys in the band to just be able to fuck around and jam with a song, and this one does just that. Besides, the way they play the song is excellent and skillful in itself. Their style just tears through so many different genres thoughout the song it's not funny. They're an excellent band. |

"And when their eloquence escapes me Their logic ties me up and rapes me" May be that people use words that they don't know the meaning for. |

| Polaris – Summerbaby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think the song's about a girl he knew for the summer, did stuff with and now she's gone. You know the type.. Anyway, that's what I think. I also think Polaris rocks and Pete & Pete was a sweet-ass show. Does anybody have more info on Polaris? Are they around or gone? |

| Oingo Boingo – Just Another Day Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
When we step out of our comfort bubble, unknown things may happen. We take for granted that everyday we step out and we could be held up for money or mugged, or hit by someone in a car having a heart attack, or just die, period. At night there's even more chance of that. "I had a dream last night / The world was set on fire And everywhere I ran / There wasn't any water" Maybe about being constantly scared, as you would be when going into a world set on fire and having no water to put it out. There's no way to stop all the bad thats happening in the world while you're in it, there's no sure way to always be safe here. "and everyone was dead" Not literal? He does say it's a dream. Just from hearing all the news of people dying every day, it seems everyone should be dead. "But there's a smile on my face, for everyone" To try and stay safe from pissing off the wrong person? "Lonely place that's always cold" Cold inside from having to be constantly scared? "Place in the stars" Is probably something comforting to think of. Possibly another reason why he'd be smiling for everyone. Razors in his bed, he can't even sleep. Dreaming of life underground could be imagining things going on that maybe aren't or are, but either way it bugs him a lot, so much that he dreams about it when he does sleep. That's just my take on it all. Great, meaningful song. Everyone has their different meanings that relate to them, and that's when you know you're hearing some great lyrics! ;] |

| Oingo Boingo – Home Again Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It seems like this song goes a little along with the song "Mary," in a way. Sort of like where is Mary going? To the mountain. Why? What is she learning? To me it sounds like it's about how we all go about our lives. Everyone has their different way, and when we see each other doing our different things, we're kind of thinking, "What the hell? Why's so-and-so doing that? What's the point?" We all find our own little niche in the world and stick with it, to comfort ourselves, etc. and it's kind of odd. |

| Oingo Boingo – Cinderella Undercover Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Seems it's prettymuch about losing innocence, I guess. Just as mysterix put it. Instead of wondering about our childhood stories we're instead drawn to the yellow newspaper rags. Also may be about how life in this world is just as messed up as in the fairytales, if not moreso: People putting needles in their arms and injecting things, wars and the fact that we kill each other and don't care, and our minds and skin get tough to it, even though it is in fact really odd if you think about it all. ...and then compare it to a fairytale or fiction story. Not much difference really.. | |
| Oingo Boingo – Stay Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Anyways, back to Oingo Boingo.. "This is not a party--Where people know your name This is not a classroom--With teacher at the board This is not a catshow--With prizes at the door This is not a horse race--Where winners beat the time This is not a funeral--With mourners in a line This is not a sitcom--Where everything's alright This is not a prison--With terror through the night. " Describing life, possibly? And the "Go.." part may be a person asking someone to stay with them and just give life another try tomorrow, instead of maybe suicide. If you've seen the video, if I recall right, the band is playing and ghosts are floating around them. It's most definitely about suicide, if not just about death. |

| Oingo Boingo – Forbidden Zone Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is taken from the movie of the same name, Forbidden Zone directed by Richard Elfman, Danny's brother. The movie was made to try and capture the insanity of the band's(at the time, Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo) live shows. | |
