| M.I.A. – Paper Planes Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
This is about economic colonialism and American foreign policy. MIA knows that American secret service agents, for example, can cross any border with easily made papers or approved visas the CIA can forge at a moment's notice. Agents are even comparable hustlers as they steal from foreign governments or perform political assassinations. The goal of American foreign policy is to subvert any unaligned foreign government or invade any country in order to ensure such state's economy's money and profits are controlled by or directed to American interests. This military-industrial complex is used as a tool by powerful corporations as a warning to non-aligned state governments that while some are let go, others are murdered. Conspiracy theorists believe that American political elites are members of secret societies, such as the "skull and bones" society many recent American presidents and presidential hopefuls were a part of while attending college. To achieve its end goal of domination, any hegemonic state will "pack and deliver" its supremacy like a machine (war) in order to maintain its "swag" or world status as number one. Americans therefore travel the world and party knowing their country will go to war to make sure America is economic king. |

| The Holy Modal Rounders – If You Want to Be a Bird/Wild Blue Yonder Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Obviously the song can be interpreted to be about drugs (smoking pot, psychedelics, etc.) but if you read the last verse which is not included on the Easy Rider, and best-known, version of the song you might be able to see something else. This song was written during the 60s, and the last verse can easily seem to pertain to the going to war, the Vietnam War. So while you, the listener, thinks the hippies can offer you freedom, the military (air force?) is marketing to you their ability to make you free too, and their ability to make you fly, through joining them and going to war. |

| Black Sabbath – It's Alright Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Maybe this song is about true love as others have said. But to me some things don't fit, like the "can never be" part. This seems more like a comforting song in case a love doesn't work out. | |
| Mariah Carey – Forever Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Maybe this song is just too overly characteristic of the genre to be very popular. It is still the best Mariah Carey song I ever heard. Her voice is perfect for it and whoever was in charge got the music down perfectly. She should be very proud of this one. Sure beats the heck out of anything Celine Dion ever did. |

| The Bravery – Time Won't Let Me Go Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think most of what people are saying abput this song is right, except to me it's not about bands or anything - it's just about regret and missed opportunities. I really like this song since the 1st time I heard it on radio, it is exactly how I feel. Never heard of the band before, but I'll def. be getting this album. | |
| Wreckinghorn – Shopping Cart Rally Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I first heard this song when I was maybe 15 or 16, when I liked this music style a lot. Good Vermont band. The song seems to work on 2 levels: The guy is working at a supermarket or some kind of store in a dead end job and he is therefore running around the store stocking, cleaning, etc. He is also running around, lost in life, directionless. The second part also seems a 2-leveler. It's stupid to literally "leave children unnattended in a shopping cart" because they might have a rally, which could be dangerous. Also, it's bad to be directionless in your life and to end up having the dead-end type jobs. Having society or your parents let you end up there is what the song also warns about. |

| Enemy You – Bedroom Windows Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Great Band. I can't understand why they aren't more popular. Probably because they sound exactly like NOFX, Bad Religion, Propagandhi and all the rest of them. It's too bad because I actually GET SOMETHING out of the lyrics they write. This song was on the "Short Music for Short People" comp. | |
| Electric Wizard – The Sun Has Turned To Black Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Scientifically, this is about an asteroid or meteors causing the end of the world or a severe blow to life and humanity on Earth. Metaphorically, the sun turning black and the reaper's shadow signify doom, death and destruction. On a whole other level, the old ones could be Lovecraftian Gods waiting to re-take the earth after this event. After the meteor shower and destruction, the state of the earth returned to what it was in the pre-Christian era, as this religion and its followers were either destroyed or lost their hope/faith as anarchy reigned and civilization returned to primitive times, causing the rise of pagan or "old ones' " religion/faith. It would be interesting to know what is hiding and waiting among the stars: old Gods, the meteors, or both? Or, could it be that the whole meteoric pass is a metaphor for what these Gods are going to do to the earth? Truly frightening. |

| Electric Wizard – Saturn's Children Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Maybe my favorite Electric Wizard song. Blissfully long and melancholy. The guitar soloing or melodic parts are truly beautiful and done absolutely perfectly. Best ending for any song or album ever. | |
| Electric Wizard – Stone Magnet Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is quite simple. The riff is nice, but kinda plain at the beginning before the song evolves. Still one of my Electric Wizard faves. Low on the evil/death vibe, the song is about the good (1st and 2nd paragraphs) and the bad (3rd paragraph) of marijuana. | |
| Electric Wizard – Saturnine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Lyrics from the actual CD booklet: (don't know which is more accurate as they might change things a little for live performances, and do they do things exactly as written while in the studio?) A black sun rises everyday Shadows cross my path as if to say "Change your ways, change your life Look up to the sky" Tommorow I'll soon be here then time to die I hear a death bell tolling out my life Every strike another plunging of the knife Mistakes I've made lead me to an early grave I know it's too late I can't be saved Saturnine for all time the only way I've ever been Saturnine in my mind high I sail the astral sea Saturnine for all time I'll never find a way to be free Saturnine in my mind load another hit of weed As I invoke these word from blackened pages Through the black arts I will find a way To bring you back through space and time to me My priestess of Mars set me free |

| Chantal Kreviazuk – Don't Be Good Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Self explanatory - nice guys finish last. If I remember right this song even got some airplay on Canadian radio. |

| Grateful Dead – Ripple Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think part of it is Jerry talking about his song-writing process, how he wants there to be songs and he wants to make music. Sometimes he might not get the right message out or get it out as he would like to, because he has lost some of the thoughts that were supposed to make up the song in time. Metaphorically, songs are like ripples in water. | |
| Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
If this song doesn't read like it was written by a suicidal person I don't know what does. Does it matter who pulled the trigger? Fact was Kurt was suicidal, he or someone else killed him, and now he's gone. Those are the facts. This song immediately was a favorite of mine the 1st time I heard it and turned me into a Nirvana fanatic. Yeah I'm a bit young to have been a fan when Nirvana was still around. The song also fits into my life, particularly the time around which it was released. Hard to listen to without eyes getting a bit watery. |

| Radiohead – Videotape Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I definitely think of being judged, or someone being judged, at the gates of heaven when I hear this song. All of their deeds that they did all their life have practically been recorded on videotape (it's a metaphor). It means that God or whatever Saint allows you in or out of heaven when you die has access to your entire life to judge you. The 'going out of control' part is when maybe someone did some bad things, maybe not intentionally, and maybe not even knowing or thinking that they were bad, but nevertheless they were done and that these too of course will be on the videotape, or life record, of the person when they die and are judged. Obviously there's more than this, ad Thom is referring to some people or person who is the 'center', maybe the one who is dying or has died's friend, lover, or someone they admired maybe even secretly and that may have been the person that they ended up doing bad things to, probably not intentionally. I might be a little off on this part, but that's what it means to me. In the end (the last paragraph) there is the happy thought that the person dying or thinking about their death had a perfect day and so they're not afraid of what happens when they're judged, because they were happy that day, no matter what the outcome became. |

| Choking Victim – Choking Victim Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Obviously very early Choking Victim. I remember reading that this song has something to do with a place that one of the band members worked at. Yes-at some point at least one of them held a job. | |
| Marcy Playground – No Money No Honey Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
always loved these guys, commercial success or not. This is obviously a song about being broke or poor, and I believe not having a great love life because of it. Hope to hear more fom these guys, or even just Woz. Can't wait for a tour. |
