A friend of mine thought some of the lyrics in the song sound quite vampirish: "We'll spend the night together, wake up and live forever... Come fly with me, eternally, You and me..." However, the lines: "You give me light So tonight take me there I feel your sun Start to glow" ...kinda put that theory to rest don't they! |

| Last spring I would listen to this song while I was working as a courier in London, looking forward to visiting California in the Summer. I didn't like my job very much but the imagery this song conjured up got me excited about going away. To me it meant leaving the city ("hear the sirens fade") and going to the countryside where I could relax and recharge, clean my "poison pains" and melt my "frozen heart". | |

| I'm not sure about the first two verses, but the second two sound like the writer's dismay at the sacreligious redevelopment taking place in her home town. Her favourite soccer club has been moved away from their spiritual home, the grounds being sold to a PLC (publically limited company - a term we use here in the UK). Meanwhile, historic buildings are being torn down to make way for new flats/shopping centres. | |

A lady meets her man for tea one day, only he's breaking up with her ("I'd like to be a friend"). Deeply hurt, she drives her car to his workplace and waits for him to come out. When he steps into the road she runs him down ("I saw the people crowding round / You didn't move or make a sound"). Realising what she has done, she flees the scene of the crime ("She's got to run / Run away from home"). I didn't make this interpretation of the song until recently, even though I've been listening to it for months. Perhaps this is because it is a fairly upbeat and jolly track. Funny how the meaning of song lyrics can be hidden behind the music. |
