Amon Amarth – Across The Rainbow Bridge Lyrics 19 years ago
Well he won't commit suicide but goes out to die in valiant battle - just knowing that he will not return from an unsurpassable foe is not suicide ;)

Amon Amarth – The Sound Of Eight Hooves Lyrics 19 years ago
Sleipnir has eight legs - it is said that it represents the 8 legs of a coffin (4 to stand on, 4 handles (legs) where the coffinbearers take it), or the 8 legs of the 4 coffinbearers themselves, representing that you can ride Sleipnir into the realm of death (which Hermodr did when trying to rescue his brother Baldr) or that Odin rides his own coffin into war, given that he is foredoomed to be killed by Fenris during Ragnarök.

Amon Amarth – The Beheading Of A King Lyrics 19 years ago
Of course this was a real event!

Most likely it's the Battle of Foteviken
At the time when this event took place, Sweden as a country didn't really exist. It concisted of smaller kingdoms and in Scania (Skåne) ruled king Erik.
Scania however, was under influence of neighboring Denmark, and had to pay taxes to the danish king, but when Erik refused the Danish king decided to go to war.

Erik, who got wind of this expedition, called upon 500 German horsemen to aid him in his defence of Scania, and when the danish fleet arrived they were crushed.
King Erik took the Danish king prisoner, and after demanding a big ransom he was released and sent home to Denmark. The danish people was not pleased with their kings actions, and had him killed by beheading...

If you're interested in the details of the story, I recommend a trip to Fotevikens Vikingareservat south of Malmö. It's a rebuilt Viking village and open air museum. A really cool place.

Amon Amarth – Valhall Awaits Me Lyrics 19 years ago
The opening song of the new album "With Oden on our side".

Not too much to interpret in their songs, but they are heroic stories and well told too.

This one clearly is about a Berserker in battle ("...bearskin on my back, wolf jaw on my head...") who fights his enemies with battlelust until he succumbs himself.

A beautiful variation in the first and last stanza where he finally falls.

On top of that, its a KICKASS song! :D
