first i heard the song definitely the line "heaven was jealous to meely look air against you" jumped out at me, i dont see how anyone could say anything that is as much as a compliment as that is, great line... the song is pretty straight forward tho, mostly what i get out of it is to have a good time it doesn't really matter what ur doing, just who ur with, makes me just think of those types of girls who arn't the model type but in there own way and a look of innocence are the most beautiful. |

great song, great band, can't say enough about these guys right now. and i have to agree more with marjolein with a few additions... in the first verse he is realizing what she is all about, that she is more or less just using him and doesn't feel the same way as he does, so in turn the roses (love altogether) lifts "its" head because he, the love, is realizing everything and is hopefully going to get out of this. but then he goes on to say it is too late, he has too many feelings for her, although based on forged feelings from her to him, his feelings are still feelings nonetheless and he can't change it. he knows still what she is doing "so I'll waste these nights for a while" but he isn't willing to accept that "but I'll be holding onto you forever" he is too torn and broken to let go of all these feelings, so he believes he can still build something together with this girl. so he keeps falling for everything once again, and as the happens, the roses dip there heads once again, as he is lost and not getting anywhere away from this whole ordeal with this girl, that is far from love. great song, all in all she is just lying to him, and he is blinded by his own ambition for love to realize it, i love the roses metaphor, and especially how its sung...once again, great song. |

yep, downforbreakfast definitely got it, atleast thats exactly what i was thinking... he's thinkin about her alot, and alot more than he should be and writing the song about her helps, but then he just is more or less trying to convince himself hes just writing it just for the sake of having another song, not giving her the credit. also tho, what first drew me to this song was the way in which he sings "isn't that cliche of me to do" and "i swear my intentions were well" that note on the end of both lines, i love how he does it with his voice, definitely a really good singer, great song, great band. |

first off, great song, easily my favorite by the graduate. secondly, this song seems to have the old motto of "live every day as if it were ur last" and all that good stuff, quit being so scared of the bad that could happen that ur not willing to let any good happen. the person its being sung too is just too scared to have fun (lets just drink, sit and sink) and they havn't realized it (you haven't seen the bright lights shine on.) can't look back on things and think 'what if'. |

when i first actually listened to this song, i saw a lot of drug references as well and so i came on here to see if anyone else thought the same... the "1cc" is the needle, meaning the drug being heroin? and the whole "natalie marie" i don't think thats an actual person, i just thought of it as the way he (or whoever this song is about) feels when they are on the drug, but possibly just someone that he does imagine up when he's on the drug, or even more simply, natalie is the drug itself. i never thought of TSC to have drug references but idk this is my theory on the song. the "therapist' being more of a rehab type person telling him that natalie is not real. "I spent every cent I had just to buy the things that you would ultimately never get" he spent all his money on the drug so he could come in contact with natalie marie, but she was never real so it didn't really matter. |
