Portishead – Biscuit Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about how no matter how many biscuits you eat it never seems to satisfy your hunger in the way a real meal does. This phenomenon also extends to sweets, chocolate and other junk food not mentioned in the song. No, really... I don't have a clue :|

Radiohead – Optimistic Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the message of this song is actually one the most difficult, because it seems to be showing two conflicting emotions at once. On one hand it's a really dark, pessimistic song / yet it has a kind of blissfull happiness to it as well. I really believe when he sings "try the best you can" he means it. The way they juxtapose that over that rising guitar line is just genius.
Nothing in life is black and white and Radiohead really seem to understand that. Life is full of joy and misery as are Radiohead's songs. People who dislike Radiohead only seem to pick up on the latter, possibly they would rather deny the existence of negative emotions altogether.

Can – Paperhouse Lyrics 17 years ago
So summery, yet so intensely sad at the same time. Funny mix
Oh and I think "Savage songs" is actually "summer songs", makes more sense in context of the music.

Radiohead – The Thief (Can cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
Why must I be a thief
He asked to the hanging man
And how come you're the only one
Who's better off, and garble farble warble

Why must I be a thief
He asked to the hanging man
And how come you're the only one
Who gives with an open hand

Why must I be a thief
He cursed and then he cried
And the hanging man held out his hand
And looked beyond the skies

Do what you must
Take what you can
Steal the heart from every man
Every angered man
Every angered man
Every angered man

I am the thief
I am the thief
And you can run
And you can hide
But I will get you yet, yes I will
Cause of you
Cause it's just your pride
Cause it's justified

This is what I hear on these verses. Thanks for submitting this, is a really great song :)

The White Stripes – Little Acorns Lyrics 18 years ago
The song itself to me seems to be about western materialism

"Carry them off in a shopping cart"

"The problems in hand
Are lighter than at heart"

"Straighten your curls
Well, your problems
Hide in your curls "

"Give it a whirl, girl"

The way that western society advertises material possesions as solutions to a much more deeply rooted problem.
The whole self help tape kinda fits the bill as well

Just my two cents :D

Nine Inch Nails – Mr. Self Destruct Lyrics 18 years ago
This song makes me think of the great Film/Novel: Fight Club.

"I take you where you want to go
I give you all you need to know"

At the begginging the narator see's Tyler as an alternative and an exit to his dead end life. However Tyler is really just "Mr. SelfDestruct" and slowly takes more and more control over him until he is left with nothing at all.

Radiohead – Pearly Lyrics 19 years ago
About the shallowness of people raised on the media ideal of the perfect human being

A girl who is more concerned about what her teeth look like than happenings in the real world, which she tries to ignore, and can only love someone if they look like they fell out of Vouge magazine.

Actually sounds like most of the people I work with

Thom Yorke – The Clock Lyrics 19 years ago
"Move the hands upon the clock"
Like being horribly late, but saying 'thats ok, I'll put my clock back a few hours"
The common attitude at the moment is that if you ignore something for long enough it will go away.

Radiohead – Motion Picture Soundtrack (Kid A version) Lyrics 19 years ago
"I read somewhere that the pause in between and afterwards is so long so that listeners can "get ready for the play-again" (sounds pretty pompous to me, but I guess its possible)."

Ur half right there. They actually said that the silence and bonus track was there to help with the looping of the cd.
The end of MPS going straight into EIIRP would have sounded very awkward. And lets face it this is the kinda CD that you would play until you went mad.
So in my case I think it's a genius idea.

This song is about achieving perfection through death. Of course thats a criminal simplification of an album that has layers, inside layers :S

But still... I think in terms of feelings this song represents the point where you become so low that you realise that nothing really matters anyway.

Radiohead – Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors Lyrics 19 years ago
"But they are trapdoors
That you can't come back from."

When I look around me I see loads of really perfect people who seem to find everything so easy. Because I live in the real world and have been fucked up by it I can't ever join the perfect lot, because (This is the hopefully clever part) my imperfect past has made me a "broken" person so I always mess it up for myself.
Thats what the last line means to me... That reads shit, oh well :(
Oh and the guy talking about wheeled Robots, thats the coolest interpretation so far. Dunno why though

I think this song is definately about ignoring problems, which, lets face it, is the only policy for staying sane.
I also think the song hints that by living in a fantasy you will eventually become everything you previously hated:
"The big fish eat the little ones
Not my problem give me some"
I think a reccuring theme in Radiohead songs is that "Normal people" are all living in a fantasy world

I just wasted half an hour of my time trying to think of words to describe this song. Lots of Radiohead songs are above words

Radiohead – You and Whose Army? Lyrics 19 years ago
To me this song represents fighting to retian your humanity in an increasingly superficial society, but knowing deep down that you will never be able to win. (Ghost horses) In some ways just being able to fight in the first place is a small victory.

Such a pretty house and such a pretty garden...
Possibly the most heartbreaking line from any song
