| can we all just accept that axl is permanently tormented by his repressed gay love for slash, that every song he writes is about this, and move on with our lives?!?!! | |
| Wilco – Jesus, Etc. Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| this might be kind of a stretch but it sort of reminds me of the gospel of judas, one of the gnostic gospels dating back to around 3 BC. in it, judas is portrayed as jesus' closest friend and wisest disciple, and he is actually instructed to betray jesus in order to fulfill the prophecy and allow jesus to ascend into heaven. jesus uses a metaphor with stars to explain to judas what he must do (thus the line about stars being setting suns), and i don't know, it's sort of weird, but i almost feel like this could be written from judas' perspective, both of them trying to find some sort of peace in the face of impending doom. it's an interesting thought. | |

This song actually IS pretty gay. o____o Whoever said Axl and Slash are fucking on the background of this track is talking out of their ass, but they make a legit point in some regards. "I've had everything that's tangible / Honey, you'd be surprised." I say it's definitely possible Axl could have been a closeted homosexual. Then again, given how homophobic he is, it doesn't seem very likely he would write a song about being gay. |

I think Axl wrote the song about being in love with someone who, for some reason, he wasn't "allowed" to love. (Like, for instance, someone with a top hat...) The candle symbolizes the relationship. Axl wants it to work, but he knows it can't. You can't hold a candle in the rain. At least not a lighted one. |
