this describes what a lot of people want, and what happens if they get it. they have lived a hard life which has left them with some sort of scars (mental, emotional, physical) "am i loud and clear or am i breaking up? am i still your charm or am i just bad luck? are we getting closer or are we just getting more lost? ill show you mine if you show me yours first lets compare scars ill tell you whose is worse" dreaming of the future, of what he wants. rewrite the rules, societies code, and just relax and take life in, and love, without all the money. "lets unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words we live on front porches and swing life away we get by just fine here on minimum wage if love is a labor ill slave til the end i wont cross these streets until you hold my hand" back to current time, they've spent too much time in one place, where the good weather never lasts. him and his friends dream about where they want to go (who doesn't) "i been here so long i think that its time to move the winters so cold summers over too soon lets pack our bags and settle down where palm trees grow and ive got some friends some that i hardly know weve had some times i wouldn't trade for the world we chase these days down with talks of the places that we will go" who wouldnt want to leave their busy life, filled with regrets and dreams behind, and live out those dreams. some of us are done with all this excitement and just want to live relaxed. |

I think he is describing being kicked out of a house by his family "the place I call home isn't there anymore, with boards on the windows and locks on the door, so pick up the pieces that never once fit, let this be the end of it once you held a place for me, but now that I've left you went and gave up my seat," because he believes differently then his famly: "don't expect me to share your visions of life, I'll take the my chances somewhere else" and he just wants to move on with his life: "give me the green light to get on with my life, pick up the pieces then roll the fucking dice I live in exile of you, your key no longer fits, because the locks on my life are new" |
