"Come on and get the minimum,
Before you open up your eyes.
This army has so many heads,
To analyze..."
"A soldier is bailing out.
He curled his lips on the barrel.
And I don't know if the dead can talk,
To anyone..."
Anyone watch the Frontline about drug abuse among US soldiers in Iraq? Not saying that that is what the whole song is about, but these two stanzas make me wonder if tales of soldiers being supplied with heavy narcotics by their company psychologists influenced the writing process. |

Ms. Dawn is gorgeous and armed with an angelic voice.
And of course the tunes are always interesting too.
Hope they do well. |

"I want the pharaohs
But there's only men"
How unrealistic have female expectations of men grown in this society? Here's a possible answer. |

Do any of Vampire Weekend's lyrics mean anything at all? I think not.
Doesn't make it any less catchy though. |

The whole song seems pretty inspired by Yeats' "Second Coming". Especially the last verse, which borrows a couple lines even. |

Mostly due to the music that accompanies these lyrics, I'd say they're actually about someone he does care about. Perhapse their love is awkward or seems out of place, like all of the situations drawn out in the middle of the song. As for the end of the song, its probably just Brock's wierd obsession with death shining through and he's just trying to say how much he'd do for her, even something as odd as dig her grave for her. |

No comments on this amazing song yet?
I think this song is about traveling around the country, seeing all of these different places with their different people, but realizing that they're all very much the same. The last verse seems kind of disillusioned by this fact. |

I always thought the line was "my winter 's out of control" as in winter, the dead and generally depressing months of the year where running rampant, taking over the rest of her life.
As for the "I wish I could buy back, the woman you stole" that always seemed like she was blaming her ex for changing her into something she no longer like or relates to, sort of a detatched existance that only furthers the depression. |

I don't know if this song is specifically for Kerry, but Leo is definitely looking for some leader thats worth getting behind. I also love the first to verses dealing with the American Lower and Middle Classes willingness to fight, and how, even though Ted doesn't understand this willingness, he supports it. Or at least thats what I get from it. |

| Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Better Dead Than Lead Lyrics

There are a lot of Alchemy references in this song. An Alchemists main goal was to turn lead into gold and it seems to me the whole song is sort of saying that he's got something that he thinks is good, his mind or his thoughts or beliefs, but "They", that ubiquitous They, don't think its good enough. They're saying, "what you have is lead not gold, its worthless and useless.", but in the chorus the singer is fighting back saying that their gold is fake, "a trick of the night". |
