I think they actually say something like "A quieter bowl..." Perhaps it's "bow" or "boat..." not sure. But it doesn't sound to me like "I cry at her bowl." But alas, my lyric book is in my car and I'm too lazy to go get it to check. |

Um the album version of this make me DANCE LIKE NO OTHER. I love dancey Kevin songs. Also, you have to see this with Bonzie beatboxing in order to fully appreciate it. The urgency that the music building behind the words gives to the whole tone of the song is pretty amazing. I think this song, in it's demo version, felt like just that: a demo. It was a skeleton of a song, and now it's fleshed out. I for one, love to see a song that Kevin can rock out with the band. Seal of approval from me. |

My favorite new demo. No idea yet what it means to me, but the sound of this song is amazing. It's so dark and creepy...I imagine a really cool video of a dark creepy carnival with all this crazy shit. I mean, if Kevin made videos. |

This song is awesome. It's cool to see him talk about his family and how proud he is about what they've given to him, and how strong they've made him. I'm obsessed with the new demos. |

I've decided that this is my boyfriend's theme song. I've made it into his ringtone on my phone. |

It's kind of obvious that this song is about how Kevin is disappointed with the way that the world has turned out. With the state of America.
The last verse is my absolute favorite. Hands down, the best song on the CD. Kevin always uses alliteration really, really well. |

| Say Anything – Total Revenge Lyrics
|
I think he's been with the girl before, and that they broke up for a while but now they're back together and he's paranoid that he's not good enough for her and that she's going to leave him because he doesn't live up to her past (whoa, run on sentence). Hence, when he likes her, it's total revenge...it's revenge because he's with her now, and not the guy that maybe broke them up? Or guys that were with her in the interim? Or it's just revenge against her because she broke up with him but now he's got her back?
So he's paranoid about the time they were apart, and wants to know all about it (where you lay your face at night for all these years). Also, he's paranoid about his abilities as a lover and if he'll live up to those in the past. He wants to marry her but is nervous to ask her and it's a problem that he deals with every day.
So all this paranoia makes him need a psychiatrist and all he talks about is her, week after week. He's afraid that if he doesn't get this under control, he won't be able to afford her love. |

| Say Anything – We Will Erase All Life on Earth But Us Lyrics

I agree that it's about the void that society has become. He's swallowed all that's been told to him, aka "you'll find love, you'll find a job, et cetera," but all it's gotten him is a rash, unemployed, and "gliding through" a wasted life. However, he wants to find a true love and start life over again, begin anew. |

| Say Anything – Metal Now Lyrics
|
I think this song is about...angry sex. About almost hating someone, but the sex is still good. About having trouble in a relationship, but you know you're meant for each other. "I'm a freak, from the same place..." = It's hard to be with someone when you feel like you're looking in a mirror, and the other person reminds you of how you yourself are.
"Let suicide make a meal for birds" = someone kills themselves and then the birds eat the remains.
Apparently the girl in the relationship has already tried to kill herself...in 1996. Perhaps suicidal thoughts are the bond between them? "Listening to live through this..." music helps them through tough times?
I still don't really get "Metal now, but I've always been..." Does he mean "Metal" as in the music genre? A "metal" sort of attitude towards life? Is he cold like metal? |

| Say Anything – I Am A Transylvanian Lyrics

I think this song connects a lot to "Every Man Has A Molly," about relationships not working out because of his art. "I'd axe it off to shut me up, but you've already heard...the murders have occurred." The same with "The path into this heart is littered with corpses." Girls have already "died" trying to get to his heart, because he's murdered them because he can't shut up. |

Toast, I always thought of it as a slight to his earlier album, which was entitled "Baseball." Apparently, that album was all about one girl, and I always took it as kind of like...this song is about the same girl, but that this one song is better than all of Baseball. |

Corrections:
"Let's weigh hard triumphs over charm
Let's send those spoiled brats to face the FEDS and GENDARME."
Gendarme is the French word for police or something, Max uses the word in the song "Belt." |

He just puts words to things that everyone feels. And he does it flawlessly.
I love the female backing vocals in this song, as well. And this is another song where, when played live, I can't help but dance. |

The imagery of the title line, "Noose dressed like a necklace," astounds me continually. Who thinks of that? It's amazing.
"And I know it seems dramatic, but I treat it like a crisis..." who doesn't feel that way at some point in their life? |

Another beautiful love song by Mr. Kevin Devine. One of the greatest lyricists, in my opinion, writing songs right now.
"We sleep side by side...your hand's in mine."
I want that! |

This song kicks so much ass live. To me, it should always be paired with "Alabama Acres." They go together the same way that "The Longer That I'm Out Here" and "Tapdance" go together.
When I'm seeing Kevin, and The Goddamn Band is there, and they play this song...I can't help but dance. |
