| The White Stripes – A Boy's Best Friend Lyrics | 10 years ago |
While I do agree that it indeed is about social anxiety, I also happened to come across a story. 'A boy's best friend' by Isaac Azimov. I haven't read it yet, though I'd love to. Anyone read it through? The story is about a 10-year-old living on the moon collony. He has a robotic dog with whom he bonds. His mother gets him real life dog but he eventually favours the robot dog. The last bit might verywell be refernce to that. |

| Tom Waits – Lucinda Lyrics | 11 years ago |
About the 'I've spoken to God on the mountain And I've swam in the Irish sea I ate fire and drank from the Ganges And I'll beg there for mercy for me.' What if these were things he had to do for her? The Irish sea apparently is a popular record attempting crossing. However, and this part might fall outside of the presumed chronological context: The Irish sea is the most irradiated sea in the world, while the Ganges is the most polluted river. Eating fire is generally unhealthy, I suppose. This would connect the first and the last and the second and the third sentences…What connects them as a whole? |

| Tom Waits – Lucinda Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think SallySpades is onto something, yet some things don’t match up. I do think he murdered her. Notice how the chord progression is a darker version of House of the Rising Sun? I’m thinking this is a twisting of the rising Sun story to Waits’ standards. A man damned by the lure of a brothel and a particular courtesan or upper-class prostitute, perhaps a high-born lady: Lucinda. He thought he was free of her, yet he feels too strong for her and returns. He made a wish on a sliver of moonlight to be with her, and got more what he bargend for. ‘I did well for an old Tin can Sailer, but she wanted the bell in my soul.’ Lucinda either despises him or has a cruel personality, making it unwise for him to return to her. “The devil danced inside empty pockets But she didn't want money or pearls Boy that wasn't enought for Lucinda She wasn't that kind of girl” He is compelled to keep seeing her, yet he is too poor. She doesn’t want his money, but instead goads him around, and he follows, perhaps to repay his dept. Whatever she forces him to do, it’s not pretty. Or perhaps it’s the very act of toying around with him that drives him to the ‘falling from grace’. William is perhaps called the Pleaser since he lived to please her. One day he draws the line an tries to murder her. He stands outside the mansion or brothel ‘The White House/Horse’, goes in and tries to shoot her. I don’t think he identifies as the killer at that moment, thus ‘someone’ pulled the trigger. He is hung for his crime, whether he succeeded is unclear. He expects Lucinda to go to hell as well, either for what she did to him or for he very profession? SallySpades, what Indian worship practices are described besides the drinking from the Ganges? Perhaps there is more to these The ‘god on the mountain’ refers to the Mozes ‘still small voice’ episode. …what’s the significance of the Irish sea? Such an amazing song, so many strange references. I love it! A side note: I thought It was interesting how Tom pronounced the ‘..Broke loose of Lucinda.’ Hell Broke Luce seems to have nothing to do with this song. A man being dragged around the world to fight out wars, returning broke and broken….I’m not sure. Also, there’s obviously some errors in this transliteration. |

| Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Loverman Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Alright, take a load of this: what if this is an answer to Billie Holiday's Lover Man? http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858529289/ Links: -She's asking where her lover man might be, he starts every verse with his location(outside, on the floor, by her side(which she asks for as well). -She's praying for a lover, he's coming down, saying Amen. "A is for ANSWERING all of my prayers N is for KNOWING your loverman's going to be the answer to all of yours " -She asks to be whispered in her ear, while throughout the song whispers can be heard on the back. -And of course, the fact he's a Devil and she says to give her soul for a loverman. This might be odd, but Cave is know to make adaption on older Blues/Jazz tunes and refer to them. Now, of course, this would add a curtain "Be careful what for you wish, you just might get it" feel to it. That combined with the obvious masculine, low, urging need of sex theme this might be a message of precaution. |

| The White Stripes – Little Cream Soda Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Love it how he sounds all Dyllenesque, yet still is Jack. A lovely addition to the little songs. |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Green Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah, I agree the context is obvious and the Demo version with Hillel's voicebox part is amazing. Went on a search about the meanings of Green Hell/Heaven since it pops up everywere. In particular to this song, a 1940 movie called Green Hell was of interest. The Director was a James WHALE. Nice to know that even back than Anthony wasn't as straight forward as he might be led to beleave. |
| Roger Waters – Each Small Candle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Truly? Even the official site says it's from the tortured person. That's a pretty nasty mistake! In any case, brilliant song with a phenomenal build up of tension and way of keeping it all the way through. |
| KoЯn – Wicked (feat. Chino Moreno) (Ice Cube cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"I live in New York, I get them skins, and I ain't talking about pork..." that part sounds like fred durst. It's Fieldy, who has a pretty decent rapping voice which does sound a bit like Fred idneed, more nasal though. Listen to his 'Fieldy's dreams' album, pretty neat. Lovely cover, awesome power. |

| The White Stripes – Jumble, Jumble Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The french woman sounds an awful lot like Édith Piaf to me.. Lovely song. |
| Tristania – Angina Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'll stay with my theory. Beyond the Veil is a story, a concept album if you like. The story starts with a girl not seeing the purpose of life, and commits suicide. She drifts trough the underworld in the Styx(it all seems to be based on Greek myth). The monotone grey agony of the river doesn't suit her, and she somehow is granted rebirth by braking from the stream and drifting into the Lethean river. She forgets her past live, and is given a new one. However, she once again endures life as a painful and uninteresting thing. Not sure how, but she dies again, wether by her own doing or of old age. This time, as this song indicates, she is send to paradise: the last relieving reward of death. The last two songs are kind of obscure in this concept. It would seam that she taunts the gods, and then wakes from the nightmare, which could be a metaphor for her life, or indicate that the previous songs were all a fictional story. Any thoughts? |

| Within Temptation – Gothic Christmas Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Of course it's kind of making fun of Gothic in general, Within Temptation has always been about fun. and although they started out with a doom/Gothic metal feel, they never took it very serious, even now, when the band is growing bigger, they still kid around with it. Love them. |
| Tristania – Lotus Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Obvious drug related dream-song, like Einar Moen has allot. The part sung by Østen is the user talking to the drug, Lotus. Which makes the first part by Vibekke allot more clear. Very atmospheric song. |
| Tristania – Lethean River Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think the person is a she, and she is already dead. She took her live in 'Beyond the Veil" and entered the Styx in Aphelion. Now, she has gotten the chance to to be resurrected, since the Stygian twirling didn't satisfy her either. But to be resurrected, she has to forget the past, by drinking from the Lethean River. |
| Tristania – Aphelion Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It sequels the first song of the album, where the girl commits cuiside. This is the part where she drifts and swirls endlessly around in the river Styx. Atleast, that's what I make of it. |
| Tristania – Endogenisis Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Damnit, I love this song... such powerful switches and emotive singing... amazing lyrics. Can listen to it over and over again... Ohh, the piano part luding into the heavy part is just perfect! |
| Jethro Tull – A Passion Play Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Krendall2006, that's perfect. The Halo,Horn, Hat line finally makes complete sense now. This is one of my all time tull faves...thanks for enlightening it! |
| Nina Simone – Lilac Wine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
No, comments huh? Well, I'll just say that this song is incredible. It doesn't need so much music at all..the voice an tone in the lyrics say it all.. Lovely... |
| Tristania – Fate Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Very impressive song. Less powerful in music than the normal Tristania song, but the lyrics and way of singing do it all. Could this be a suicide attacker? |
| Evanescence – Imaginary (Fallen version) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is a lovely song about her escaping the chaos of everyday life in her dreams, where everything is fine. But by doing so, has created a nightmare. |
| Within Temptation – The Swan Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
A Swans Song comes from the story of the mute swan, that when it died, would finally sing an unbelievably beautiful and mournful song. The term is used for exceptional final acts of people. The lyrics and feel of the song really show that well. And yes, The Swan song and A Dangerous Mind are a great ending of The silent Force, they carry the heavy, cold atmosphere of the album. |
| Nickel Creek – Sweet Afton Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Amazingly beautiful and sweet. I hadn't heard of Robert Burns before this. Seems beautiful how an American Bluegrass band plays a poem of a Scottish poet. Also a nice detail about the song being in major while it's about the death of Mary, does make it allot more sweet. |
| Sonata Arctica – The Boy Who Wanted to Be a Real Puppet Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I totally agree with TheTonJudge, except for one thing: It would seem indeed logical if he would stik the knife trough his heart. But I think he cuts of the strings, an thus, be come lifeless. Since he stated: "Can I ever cut off the strings?" And on the back sleave and booklet of the album there is a doll with some lose strings on his body, lying lifeless on the ground. I love the song, on of my faves of Reckoning Night. |

| Godsmack – Moon Baby Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Kilaelya, good job, I think you might be right:) Awesome. |
| KoЯn – Make Me Bad Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Best KoRn song, have been loving it forever:) Sex, or sex addiction, how it makes him forget his troubles. Kinda like 'Trash'. And, yeah, that chorus just headbang-demanding awesomeness:) |
| Metallica – Too Late Too Late (Motörhead cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It doesn't beat the original, but still, Metallica rocks at covers.:) | |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Midnight Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Incredible song:) I always thought "Over the laws of light Over the moon by midnight" had something to do with cities. When you flie over a city at midnight, it's practically a lawn of light. Also, lawns of light may have something to do with star fields, since he also sings about Scorpio and the Greek Muse's. Complecated song, I'd love to know the meaning. |
| Jethro Tull – ...And The Mouse Police Never Sleeps Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Sounds like a lovely song. I really have to get Heavy Horses when I stumble upon it:). In Jack-a-Lynn he makes a reference to this: "Cole black cats in policeman's hats. Nosing where the mice have been". I always thought that the cat was looking for the police-mice. That the roles had been switched. |
| Sonata Arctica – The Power Of One Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Nevermind that... Tony wrote the lyrics for the album in matter of days. So I guess that's the reason for allot of the same words and such troughout the album. Non the less an amazing job.:) |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Transcending Lyrics | 19 years ago |
My favourite Chili pepper song along with Don't Forget Me. River was with them in the house where they recorded "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" most of the time. I especially love the guitar tune of the "Like no other, I love you, you're my brother" part. Don't know why those lyrics aren't included? And yes, Grungehead217, some people actually label "One Hot Minute" as a Funk-Metal album. |
| Godsmack – Vampires Lyrics | 19 years ago |
There even is a sample that is used in both songs! "Ough, that hurts" Amazing:) |
| Godsmack – Moon Baby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Also interesting is the second part has a moment where Sully mumbles, it's barely understandable, since there is a scream trough it. When the lovely palm muted break comes in at 3:20 he says something like: "I always said I'd never feel this way again, but I just can't make this * work * over and over, and I can't..." (Scream kicks in) would be nice to know those missing words an the rest of it. |
| Godsmack – Vampires Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's the sequel to "Moon Baby", kicking this first album. The samples troughout the song are from the same episode of the "Mysterious Forces Beyond" episode "We are not alone". Amazing instrumental. For an even greater experience listen to "Moon Baby" and "Vampires" after one another. For more info take a look at my comment on "Moon Baby". |
| Godsmack – Moon Baby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Pff, Ok, I thought I had this one, but I'm not sure. Facts: -Godsmack are into spirituality and voodoo. -The Moon is a metaphor for Madness. -The song is spilt into a part with lyrics and the awesome instrumental frenzy part. "The Moon is tought to transform some people into strange people into strange creatures that drive others MAD"...(First Man on the moon) "...or is it all just Lunacy". Could this be about the all old Werewolves story of being incapable of being near a loved one, because of the danger? "..How I'm craving you" "Every time I'm near you, I always want to swallow you down" Or about going insane with somehow unreachable love? "Let's take a TRIP to the MOON, baby" It sounds really confusing, he's asking all kinds of questions "why is it everyday that I feel the pain?" "where were you when I was down?" But tells the one he's talking to not to ask why he needs (her/it?), because he'll go away if he knows.(Go mad?) Some more info on that serie "Mysterious Forces Beyond" could be very helpful indeed. Apparently the program was hosted by a guy named Nick Mancuso. An actor who had studied psychology before going on professional acting. The clips have to be from the "We are not alone" episode, which covers: Angels, Ghosts and....Vampires! So, we've come closer! It's about Vampires and their lust for love, and the tragedy of having to drink and ultimately kill your loved one. And it all makes sense in a sudden! The description comes with a quote: "Few creatures of the night have captured our imagination like vampires, but do they really exist?" And so,"Moon Baby" is the "part 1" of "Vampires" featuring on their follow up album "Awake" Listen to them after one another, for an amazing experience. Sorry for the long post, but I think was worth it. |

| Metallica – Fixxxer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
BltZmat, of course it's about James' addiction and childhood. But he's blaming God for those things. Trust me, I'm not the type to explain everything with God, I'm not even religious. But, for what I've heard, Christianity was forced up to James in his child years. So I think he's asking like: "Why should I believe in you, when you make all of that misery". And yes, facing these things by saying NO , and stepping away from and blocking himself from religion by sinning. If he was singing about himself, he would be singing tó himself. And the first verse would make no sense. Right? |
| Sonata Arctica – The Power Of One Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Alright, some good stuff about this tremendous song. But I really think there is so much more to this song. Since it closes the album. "The keys that I grant thee". Maybe this is not just the Jewish reference, but perhaps he has given us 'keys' throughout. I'm thinking "Silence" could be something like a concept album. If it is, it's really deep... A few other songs stand out with the same references. Black sheep; a rather vague song probably about unreachable love. "Singing a love song, words of a stranger" And he sings about "condemned to eternal night" That same theme comes up in "San Sebastian", "in love with the sun, married to the moon"(night). Then, in Sing in Silence, the meaning is pretty obvious, but the chorus is a bit awkward(but unbelievably beautiful): "Haven of Emotion, Mournful ocean. Heiress of the Evening, Sings in Silence.."(With the first letter in Capital of every line.) Also "never letting sunshine in your eye like before" Second time speaking of 'Silence', and could be seen as the theme track of the album, perhaps. "Heiress of the Evening", does this mean she inherited the evening, and so perhaps lives in the night? Or has the evening passed away and has she inherited something of the evening? Blugh, am I just rambling now and is is coincidence? Or is there really something like a story in it? Pleas, give your thought on it. |

| Sonata Arctica – Tallulah Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Amazing song:) You think the drummer he speaks of is Tommy Portimo? |
| Jethro Tull – Jack-a-Lynn Lyrics | 19 years ago |
All right, I'll try:). Tough I'm not verry good at being brief, I'm afraid. So, "Cold aeroplains" , "slow botes" and "Warm Trains" Are uncomartable ways of travelling. In this case, away from your loved one. But even the "Lush hotels and Pretty girls" won't push away the toughts about her. He wonders why he hasn't felt this way about her before. The next part go's on about how the toughts about her keep him from sleeping and let him write this song. "Magpies that shriek , old boots that leak, call me to jack-a-lynn" Lovely line. Well, leaking boots are bad, that's obivous. The shrieking of a Magpie might be found an awfull sound(though I love it). And Magpies used to be bad omens and cruse bringers in the old folk lores. As are black cats. The next bit is a guess. But black cats searching Policeman's hats for mice, might mean something like, that there is no order or justice where he is(whatever far away country it may be). Since the bad one(Cat) is shacing after the policemen(mice) instead of the other way around. All of that makes him wish he were home with his girl. That's my thought, hope it's a bit clear. |
| Sonata Arctica – Victoria's Secret Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Amazing:) That's a good explanation. But I have something else you might give a thought on. I pictured some princes, locked up in a tower/room for all her life. She is only allow outside at night,so has never seen sunlight. Living her live in the night..Crying over it in the lantern's light. So, she escapes, heads: the chorus. She first is happy about it. But then she realizes, she know no one, and no one misses her. But (as stated in the chorus) she can not go back). "Lost in the sunlight, leave, you will not see the moon Walk for the first time, no one has waited for you?" After that I am pretty much blanking. But the point of trying to find another meaning than MalachiaD's is that some points don't fit in the story. First, say so if I am wrong, but Tony writes some pretty Christian based lyrics, and seems quiet strict to some rules of Christianity(Like in 8th Commandment). Now, isn't it so that, a Christian who commits suicide, isn't allowed in heaven? That would seam cross. And, if the girl took her life to be free in Heaven, why's her secret to live life to the fullest and enjoy it every step? Or is she more of an example? That she stands for the wasting of life, while there is so much lovely to do? Give me your thoughts. |

| System of a Down – Johnny Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Great ideas floating around here. This is getting somewhere. Here is my add: Note how he sings the verses in Brit English and how Roger and Johnny are two tipically English names. Perhaps they are pointing at a speccific British politician? Or is the accent and names just used to likd the two names? And I can relate so much to the Johnny. |
| Jethro Tull – Jack-a-Lynn Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I agree with the rocker, there's an amazing power and atmosphere to this song.. And it builds up perfectley. I love the folky, soft acaustic part but also the way that the distorted guitar kicks in after "Magpies that shriek, old boots that leak". Just amazing. It's obviously about missing a lover when not being able to be with her, and everything makes you want to leave. |
| Within Temptation – The Promise Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is one of my favourite songs. Heads my nick. The first part is the 3rd person story telling part. Then the rest is the girl singing. The girl no longer had anything to live for, so sold her soul to bring her lover back. To do that she had to kill all the ones responsible for his death, and perhaps, as the beginning suggests, wouldn't get any rest before they were all dead. I can listen to this for hours:). |
| Metallica – Fixxxer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Ok, this is how I see it. I think "Wuxingwarrior" was on the right path. Although he might have put it a bit harsh. James starts telling about the God who's using us as dolls, playing with us. In the absolutely awesomely haunting chorus is James questioning God: You're so all mighty, but can you heal what you've wrecked? "BUT tell me" Then he continuous about the mirror: self reflection. Look at what has become of you and make a choice, will you still follow this god that abuses you so much? "Break the spell or become the doll" "We're just the toys in the hands of another" Then in the bridge he makes the decision: no more torment, live free. Without boundaries. He starts drinking again and committing violence. So that god no longer can reach him. "Shell of shotgun Pint of gin Numb us up to shield the pins" The 3 x'es for the stone is something that was done for unkown soldiers lost in battle. So that would be like another death on the immense heap that died by that god. Uhm...Isn't XXX the mark for Gin? Or am I totally wrong at that? "Renew our faith Which way we can To fall in love with life again" Faith doesn't have to be a religion, it's just your perception of life, so to renew your view on life and embrace it again. "No more pins in me": No more control by god. Does that make sence? |
