| Elliott Smith – Between the Bars Lyrics | 19 years ago |

"the bars" are the barries a girl put in front of herself to protect her emotions. She is confused with who she is and is afraid to show her true colors, so she tries to pretend she is someone else. To me, this is a non-cheesy romantic song. The guy wants to be her protector. He wants to take care of her, have her relax with a drink and just be able to be herself. "drink up baby, look at the stars, i'll kiss you again, between the bars" is just a beautiful quote. To me, this is the guy saying, i love you for who you are. Relax, be yourself, and let me take care of you and love you. |

| Elliott Smith – Somebody That I Used to Know Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| true-it could be an insult. But when I first heard it, I thought of it as just pure tragedy of losing someone close to you. When you are in a relationship, friendly or romantic, you know somebody well, and you love them. When you split up, where does the love go? It's just a shame that you knew someone so well and then one day you just cut ties. It's just a sad realization that you lose an important piece to your life, regardless of who ended it. | |

This is about a man who is realizing his narcicism. He's not a bad guy, but he thinks that he should deserve special treatment from people. He walks around doing whatever he pleases, without real concern of others. Right now, he is in a state of self-reflecting and realizes that the life he lives isn't really as great as he thought because he keeps himself from getting close to people. He wears his arrogance as a mask to hide his insecurity. 'nobody broke your heart, you broke your own cause you can't finish what you start' He might be coming of age and realizing he needs to just be himself and not be afraid to get close to people. We all know people like this. |
