Running with the idea that she gave up what makes her unique; She comes off as a childish, imaginative individual who's trying to be 'grown up'. But the truth is, it's not really working out for her. She's suppressing who she is because it makes her (for lack of a better word) weird. But as a result, she lacks substance. Others may find her boring because they're missing an important aspect of her personality. Voice and tail in exchange for bleeding feet. Imagination and childhood toys for gin and cocaine. (i'm having trouble putting my thoughts into words. bear with me.) |

hmm. i think it could be that she doesn't know who it is she belongs with, she just knows her perfect match is out there ("people searching glance to glance") or simply a crush. OR any/all of the above. longing. |

i don't understand why everyone is making sex & orientation a big deal. he never specifies in the song, so it's really up to your own imagination to fill in the blanks. that's the beauty of art. it means something different to everyone. & west side story is usually described as a modern day romeo & juliet. that's probably why this song reminds you of both. this song is pretty straight-forward. i don't really think it was meant to be over-analyzed. |

Isn't "still i taught this giant bottle" actually "still atop this giant puddle"? Because that's what I heard, and it seems to make more sense. |

| I think that when she talks about Fitzgerald and Hemmingway 'drinking in the cafés', she's referring to the mural of classic authors over the café in Barnes & Noble. | |
