i love the words to this song, his prose is brilliant. man, i would never have thought to pull that out of song of solomon, it really is beautifully written. i'm not sure i agree that it's entirely about lust; i think it's just about the hidden sins that we don't realize we're holding onto. we have to ask for God to reveal them to us... so it's a problem for girls too, for everyone. i love the line about the fur they shed covering your bed; it shows how easily we can become entrapped in it, so immune that we sleep comfortably in our iniquity. |

i know there's a theological metaphor here, it's just more subtle than some of their other songs. maybe this song kind of relates humankind to dr. frankenstein, and our tendency to try and repair our sinful nature ourselves, to fix it so we can continue on in righteousness. however when we do that, the sin always calls back to us wanting to remarry us... that's not exactly it but i think it's going in the right direction. |

| everyone really overcomplicated the pills line. it's hypothetical speaking; a person takes pills that night, but two aren't enough to calm their anxiety stemming from the "thoughts that keep you awake". they took more than just the two and unknowingly overdosed. they may have died in their sleep, that's the first impression i got. maybe they're just denying the fact they have to wake up, not wanting to face reality. either way, it's downhill from there... how existentialist and sad. | |
