I love the way this song mixes an inherently unhappy subject with such a playful timbre. On one hand we have sombre lyrics like: - "It's raining again" - "My love's at an end" - "I'm losing a friend" - "It's only time that heals the pain" But this is contrasted with a childlike sense of naivity: - The upbeat tempo - The playful saxophone and xylophone throughout - Childlike lyrics, like "And makes the sun come out again" and "C'mon, you little fighter" - The teasing melody at the end of the accordian's solo - The background vocals at the end, reciting the nursery rhyme "It's raining, It's pouring, The old man's snoring..." This song reminds me of my placement with Year 1s (age 5-6) during my teacher training. |

joiedevivre, I agree with you - I think she's talking specifically about sex, not just love in general: The rhythmic "yeah, yeah, yeah"s; "you make me feel wild"; "if I loose my patience, please try to understand". This song always makes me think of Harold Shipman, though ( a doctor / serial killer - see http://www.bbc.co.uk/crime/caseclosed/shipman.shtml ) - "if I loose my PATIENTS, please try to understand"! |
