ok everyones got it all wrong. yes it is about drugs. But it says " I want something else to get me through this semi charmed kind of life baby" meaning he wants to stop doing drugs and do somthing else that can get him through this life. Then he says " How do I get myself back to the place where you said I want something else to get me through this semicharmed kind of life baby" Meaning at one point he wanted to quit. So now he wants to get back to that place where he said that he wanted something else to get him through life. He wants to quit but seems to still go back to it. |

This song is about someone trying to help their friend to stop using drugs. The band said it clearly it can mean no other honestly!!!!!I'll explain Step one, you say, "We need to talk."( you're asking to make a convorsation with you're friend about somthing really important) He walks, you say, "Sit down, it's just a talk."(you tell im it's just a talk nothing to be forced) He smiles politely back at you;(he smiles at you cause he knows what he wants to talk about) You stare politely right on through,(you just stare at him with a serious face) Some sort of window to your right As he goes left and you stay right(there going in different directions in life) Between the lines of fear and blame,(he means that hes in between the lines of being scared to try and help him and he doesnt want to blame him) You begin to wonder why you came.( he obviously doesnt want the help cause when he's done talking to him he's wondering why he even bothered trying when his friend wont listen to him) Where did I go wrong?(clearly stated) I lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness(he lost his friend to drugs his friend didnt die his friend just choses drugs instead so he lost his friend) And I would have stayed up with you all night(clearly stated meaning he would've done anything to help him even stay up all night) Had I known how to save a life.(he DID know how to save his life from drugs but his friend wouldnt listen) Let him know that you know best, 'Cause after all, you do know best.( anyone not usuing drugs talking to a user allways knows best) Try to slip past his defence( meaning try to slip past what he has to defend himself like if he has a reason why hes doing drugs) Without granting innocence(he doesnt want to tell him he's innocent cause he's not) Lay down a list of what is wrong, Things you told him all along( showing him things that have been going wrong) Pray to God he hears you,(clearly stated) And pray to God he hears you. As he begins to raise his voice,(his friend is getting mad cause lets face it no one likes to be told what not to do but hes trying to help) You lower yours and grant him one last choice.(you lower your voice cause then your just arguing) Drive until you lose the road(drive until you lose the road meaning drive until you find your way) Or break with the ones you've followed(or break meaning not succed in life with all the users your following) He will do one of two things: He will admit to everything( he will admit that he's been usuing drugs and that he should stop) Or he'll say he's just not the same,(or he's going to say that he's changed over the years and he doesnt care) And you'll begin to wonder why you came. (that's why he's wondering why he even bothered wasted information) Where did i go wrong?
