I know some people claim for this to be a song about ecstasy or about broken relationships. I agree with both but it has a personal meaning for me. My boyfriend has really bad kidney problems which cause him to pass out from the pain. It's really awful to watch but he says he likes me to be there because it stops him being as scared. Recently, we were driving home when he had one of these attacks and he's been in hospital for about 3 days now and I've been everyday so far. It's weird because I've not even known him that long but I do have rather strong feelings for him for such a short space of time. But anyway, this song just describes kind of what I'm going through. Obviously, our time spent together hasnt been exactly how it was 'I caught a glimpse But it's been forgotten' With seeing him all the time in that state, I keep forgetting what it was like before he started having these attacks. 'I made a vow To carry you home' I promised him that I would ride in the car home with him that day, so I got the afternoon off from college which I'm so glad I did! 'I really tried To be what you wanted It all went wrong' But now, Im starting to dread going to see him. When he has these attacks, he cries with the pain and then he just passes out. I'm finding it hard to juggle work, college and seeing him after it all. I feel guilty for not wanting to see him but it's caused my anxiety to come back. 'I made a vow To carry you home If you feel sick If you pass out' I did promise him that I would always help when he got into those states. And the feeling next lines has literally meaning. 'I figured it out I can see it again' And this part of the song Im still waiting for it to happen.. hopefully he'll get out soon! Such a lovely song, I always admire bloc party's lyrics. They are so deep and have so many different interpretations for different people! |
