This is the most beautiful song of Queen. Truly my favorite one, even though I love all the early Queen material pretty much, I have to admit that Innuendo is the most magnificent, inspiring and profound album the band ever created. I'd even say THE most magnficient album EVER created by ANY band. It's Freddie's life, it's all the things he's given, all the things he created and done for the world, as an artist a true artist. TSMGO is... well, who else than Brian could have written it so perfectly? He knew was he was going through, he knew what lies he had to tell whereas it was obvious that something was wrong. I think Brian admired Freddie's courage throughout his illness. Because he never gave in, up until the end. Never stopped smiling, even when his insides were nothing but wrecks, he kept on singing, giving all his voice, for singing was all his life, what he loved the most, creating... being an artist. Who could not admire that? For those who don't know, he kept on recording material 2 weeks before he died. And he stopped taking his medication at that time, deciding he didn't want to end up blind, something that started to happen already. He was unique. |

| Miss Anie is right, I've never found out why he had written it at that time, why HE had written it at all. It's so not like him, ok it's on Queen I, so he wasn't all about "Let me entertain you all, dears", he gave more of himself probably, and was trying to find his own style. Actually in Queen I, they ALL had to find their own style, who has started to come to life in Queen II, to be totally found in ANATO. In between Sheer heart attack was some sort of rehearsal, a little evolution. You can see it as the choirs in Killer Queen have changed since "Fairy feller's masterstroke" or "March of the black Queen", it's softer, more opera like, before of course Bo Rhap, that lead to all the "somebody to love", "we are the champions" and such (concerning the choirs style and multi tracking etc) | |

lol I'm sure he must have yelled threats to the band with his annoying voice up until Freddie finally gave in, out of irritation. Anyways, I think most people should know something about Queen, ALL Their songs have been written in a gay spirit, and to explain to people that some psychic had predicted loooong ago in Zanzibar that Freddie would catch AIDS and discover it more than 16 years after the creation of the band. Seriously guys, I think among the people writing here are the Queen fans, who are certainly as cynical as the members of this band, and the other people who don't know much things about these 4 men... and some time ago, I'd have probably insulted the latter ones, because this ignorance is unforgivable to me... now I've come to understand that it didn't matter as long as there still was the first kind of people I mentioned, to talk with. Now about I'm in love... I love Roger... I love to make fun of him because he is the archetype of the little bugger, immature and funny, of the band. I find him hilarious, so of course, I love this song. I actually spend lots of time singing it out loud, imitating Roger's voice with my best friend, and even accentuating his hiiigh voice, to make it even more annoying :P I love you Rogeeeer aaaah |

| That's definitely one of the songs you can tell have been written by Freddie, although weirdly it doesn't have the same effect than "staying power" (or originally "fuc**** power"). He loved sex, he loved to have sex with men or women, and he always claimed that. So there's nothing wrong or shocking about this song, and the bass line is really good, there's a really sensual feeling coming out of it. | |

Well, you know what? You say black I say white... I love this song. Roger's songs generally suck, but I love this one. I love the drums, I love to make fun of Roger's vocals (even though the best song to do so is "I'm in love with my car" of course) and... it's appealing to me, I love the way Freddie sings it, like "Staying power", when he takes this sexy tone, almost whispering sometimes, I love it. And about the meaning well... yeah it's about partying... Roger always put lots of imagination into his lyrics. (Ok I like Radio Gaga, but it's not as deep as Brian or Freddie's texts, far from it.) |

The lyrics have no meaning, apart from "The salam aleikum" part. At least that's what I read in their biography, but knowing Freddie's sense of humor, it's almost 99% sure that he wrote this to make fun of something going on politically speaking. When was it written? It appears on "Jazz", so it must have been written around 77/78. Freddie never really gave credit to the politics or religion... so I truly think it was a way to comment the current events and say "is that so bloody important?" |

I rather agree with lapofthegods, beside the fact that this song is certainly the most powerful early Queen song, apart from Bo Rhap, some sort of epic act, like Innuendo later on... I actually call it "Freddie's artistical frenzy" I adore it. Well, I adore him so how could it be otherwise? Anyways, I also believe this Black Queen is a representation of Freddie himself, taking control of the crowd during his gigs. At this period, they had started to tour a lot, and started to be very popular in the UK despite the poor success of Queen I. On stage they were adored already because of their talent and the huge charisma Freddie already had. So when you read the first verse, it seems to be some metaphorical version of "let me entertain you", he suggests several incredible things never seen before, and with all this starts to amaze people and takes control of them. All rhe "put 'em in the cellar with the naughty boys" and put polish on their nails part is maybe about all these fans who have started to impersonnate Freddie and Brian by wearing the same sort of clothing and polish. Freddie asking them to keep on making noise is about all the cheering crowd saying his name, singing along making him feel like a Queen, like a God ruling and reigning over his crowd. Earning from them, not only enough to get his "belly full", but also all the love and passion he ever wanted. After this he adds that , if he earns love from them and adoration and almost submissivness, that's because HE gives them "a little bit of love and joy" In the end he says he reigns and rules with his hands, and I agree with the Brian and Freddie nails explanation, but I'll also add that, he says "I'll be what you make me, I'll do what you like, I'll be a bad boy, I'll be your bad boy"... saying that he he ALSO submissive to his public, to his public's needs and desire when he gets on stage to entertain them, to "do the march of the black queen". Now, Freddie would be here, he'd probably say "Oh darling, what the f*** are you talking about? It's just a bloody song I wrote after drinking too much vodka. No meaning involved" And we wouldn't believe him, because we all know how wise and witty he could be when it came to his writing. For, as far as you can listen to Queen's albums, from the beginning to the end, Brian' songs are political, meaningful, but Freddie's are metaphorical, cynical, colourful, flamboyant... just like him. |
