The music video for this song sums it up so well. They're all just happy to know each other, and to have made such great music together. |

I have a live version of this song where Hendrix pauses for a second near the end of the song to say "and the flag was still there, big deal."
I'm not entirely sure what to make of that. It sounds like Hendrix is probably anti-war and is disappointed in his country. |

I enjoy the guitars in the second half as well.
When I first listened to this song as a bootleg, I interpreted it as the band expressing their surprise over how successful they've become. They started off small, and now they're touring in places such as Germany and Japan, something that seems "impossible," or at least "unlikely."
I think dirtyp28 has the right idea, though. It hadn't occurred to me that the countries shared a strange past. |

I interpreted the song as being narrated by a guy who's stuck in the "Friend Zone." He's desperately trying to get the attention of a girl who he likes so much, but he's just too inept/shy to get her to notice him as more than just a friend. All the while, he's mentally beating himself up for making such a futile effort ("You are a fool, you are a fool...I'm a lapdog"). I wish this song had been released a little earlier than July...I was in a situation similar to this one last spring, it would've reflected my mood perfectly. |

I have been hooked on this song for months. I need to find a new favorite soon, or I will possibly become a permanent BSS fanboy.
The music video of this song was hilarious, but it changed my perception of what the song was about. |

It seems like they're really channeling Jack Johnson in this song. Johnson's definitely not one of my favorite artists, but these guys do a good job of making the suave, laid-back music that he does. |

If there were one song that I would want to compare to a rollercoaster, this would be it. The instrumental buildup in the beginning is great. The middle is climactic and uplifting. The end brings you back down in a good way. |

Plain and simple, it's a song about anti-consumerism.
Maybe that ties in to masturbation somehow, though :P |

The disjointed sound of the drums and piano really connect well with the lyrics of this song. For some reason it reminds me of the book The Bell Jar. |

I definitely agree that foamweapon's idea could be true, but I wonder if this song is meant to be taking semi-literally. These lyrics--
Who is driving?
Aqua-planing
Hold on
--make me wonder if Yorke is describing a car full of drunk people. When I listen to the song I envision a group of rambunctious and tipsy boys who are yelling drunken nonsense out the windows of their "drunk machine," the car. Suddenly, they lose control and crash the car ("the drunk machine / spits..." indicates an interruption of some sort), and in a half-conscious state they wonder--" who put IT in charge?" |
