Stars – Write What You Know Lyrics 19 years ago
Amazing. My favorite Stars song. Though some lyrics are missing/wrong:

after “we don’t like calls anymore” is the line “Try not to lie, it tends to leave a mark”
and “the future is dark” should be “if you showed us the door” (x2).

This song is almost trip hop, or a NIN song except more melodic. It’s like an outtake from Kid A. Combines a synth, strings, haunting vocals, and a beat, what more could you want? I’m guessing the meaning has something to do with idealizing romance. And ponies… drug dealing ponies.

Rogue Wave – Every Moment Lyrics 19 years ago
It's about process philosophy reconciling scientific naturalism and religion. According to whitehead, every moment has intrinsic value, contributes to the future of other beings in the universe, and contributes to the life of god, hence the mormon reference. .... just kidding, sorry, I'm bored and studying. when i heard this in class though, the 'every moment' part, all i could think about for the rest of the time was this song. saw them in concert -- best live performance/sound i've ever experienced.

Spoon – Reservations Lyrics 19 years ago
add in "and it's why" between the last two lines after 'reservations' and before 'she's so realized'. I love how the song picks up at the end so unexpectedly after the early melodic and mellow introduction. Seems to be about unrequited love or missed opportunity, you know, the clichéd girl never noticing the ‘right’ guy whose ironically always around at her favorite coffee shop or whatever and vice versa. I don’t know…?

Grandaddy – He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot Lyrics 19 years ago
This song was used at the end of the documentary Occupation:Dreamland about the US occupation in Fallujah during early 2004 (before it was destroyed). Very haunting and fitting.

Nada Surf – Blankest Year Lyrics 19 years ago
Abso fucking lutely PHENOMENAL live! I've seen them twice in the span of six months and they put on the best shows I've ever been to. The first time rogue wave and inara george got up on stage to dance during this song like shesmostunusual mentioned. Then I just saw them two days ago where they played through their songs chronologically. To close it they started with Always Love and had everyone screaming out the lyrics. With everyone pumped they followed it up with this song. I think that's the loudest I've ever screamed 'fuck it' while simultaneously being happy. Matt ended up playing the final refrain about four times over after the song had ended. Thank you Nada Surf!!

Nada Surf – Fruit Fly Lyrics 19 years ago
Indeed. My favorite song from Let Go. In concert Matt said, rather sarcastically, that this was based on a 'true story that happened in his kitchen'. The lyrics obviously reflect that it's about more than that. But still, poor fruit flies...though, I've killed hundreds of them in genetics lab. Maybe I should write a song about that.

The Presidents of the United States of America – Some Postman Lyrics 19 years ago
I’m pretty sure the band is sarcastically referring to themselves for most of the song. If someone sent a love letter labeled to “the Presidents of the United States of America” it would never get delivered and thus end up with the postman. Also, according to allmusic, the band’s drummer joined in 1993, after which the band became “one of the most popular bands in Seattle”… hence the reference.
