Ugh... this is obviously ironic and sarcastic, not identification of SY with "teenage riot". They are sarcastically commenting on the urge of youth to riot for the sake of rioting. I mean this part gives that away pretty obviously: "It better work out I hope it works out my way Cause it's getting kind of quiet in my city's head Takes a teen age riot to get me out of bed right now" "City head" = bourgeois, Thurston appears "bourgeois" to the "radicals" and ironically comments that he needs to be waken up. |

| Actually I've heard that this is about his real friend, called Michael, who left and never came back home... | |
| Beck – Round The Bend Lyrics | 19 years ago |

sbauernilsen: "Anyone notice that the music in this song sounds a lot like "River Man" by Nick Drake? That's the first thought I had when I listened to this song." So I´m not the only one who has the same feeling. :) I think that Beck was inspired by that song. |

| Joanna Newsom – En Gallop Lyrics | 19 years ago |

This is one those songs, which are very personal to me. I agree with eigenv1 - it looks like Joanna quit school to write music. This is about escaping to your own world. "And I go where the trees are / And I walk from a higher education" - beautiful metaphor. Leaving the real world of education to reach the magical forest. But everything is not allright. Your own world, that you have created, without people. Nobody´s there. You try to invite some people there, but they don´t get it. In one moment its like if Joanna feels frustration for that ("Bitch! You free economy"...) but then sings: "never get so attached to a poem you forget truth that lacks lyricism never draw so close to the heat that you forget that you must eat" Its seems to me like asking yourself, if it is not me - who has gone too far. If it is not you who don´t try to understand what is happening around you. If you´re not too lost in your own world. Great song from great artist... |

| Damien Rice – Delicate Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Yeah, this is definitly about friendship between girl and boy. Boy want it to be something more, girl just want him to be friends, just friends. I think he got the feeling, that this is the "right" person, that this is the one who understands him perfectly, who fits with him. And then - he is disappointed by her stance. He doesn´t understand. He starts to re-think (is it possible to use this expression :)) what he has felt. "Why do you sing with me at all?" - Is it possible, that I was wrong? This is not a fair stance - but there are moments in life, when we are so down, that it is hard to think clearly. Anyway - daylove put it great. |
