I'm sorry. But wtf no your all wrong. I think it is a song for his wife Susan Silver whom he divorced not long after this album's release. Keep in mind this was a period of heavy drinking and smoking for Chris. The song is pretty straight forward not much translation is needed. I think people over-analyze Cornell's works. |

"What you got me hanging from" means I don't like the situation you have put me in. It is a very general term and can used in many different situations. For example if your boss has you working during the holidays you could tell him I don't like what you got me hanging from. The term isn't used commonly, it kind of originates in this song and this song is only place I have heard the phrase |

Its about how man searches for meaning to the world. Its a spiritual song about someone looking for a deity or the 'paradigm', how the world works and the laws that govern it. Let me clear up something. Matt Cameron wrote the song and not Chris Cornell. Knowing that I firmly believe the song is about Matt knowing a person who once overlooked and mistreated him and now Matt is experessing how he is above them now because of his fame and status. If it was done by Cornell I wouldn't how to interprate the lyrics becasue Chris writes metaphorically and very abstract. But knowing Matt wrote it leads me to believe the lyrics are more obvious and recogonizable by society in that situation. |
