RyGuy, sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with you about A Beautiful Lie not being half as good as their debut. I loved the first album, but a Beautiful Lie is so much deeper and creative lyrically.. and have you seen their newest videos? Each one is better than the last. I think they get better and better, can't wait to see what they come up with next. Also, about this song. I agree with sever_lyricist. The meaning is pretty literal. The vocals are AMAZING. |

I think this song is about him reaching a point in his life where he has to really look inside himself and see what he's become. I think he kinda realizes that his life has been a lie, so now he has to deal with the process of figuring out who he really is. I think the lines, "this is the story of my life, these are the lies I have created," sound like he is confessing all the lies to someone, whether it's himself, the people around him, or to God. (Some parts of this song seem a little religious to me.. If this part is intended to be as a confession to God, it seems like after realizing the lie his life is he is putting it all on the table and being judged maybe?) The repeated line, "And I swear to God I'll have found myself in the end," is a desperate promise (to himself, I think) that even after how fake his life has been to this point, he will figure out who he really is. |

Like so many people have already said, I think this song is about murder. However, when I was reading the lyrics just now, another thought occurred to me. What is the guy has some sort of mental condition/disease/disorder? Maybe a sex addiction? Or maybe it's just rage/ lust...? Anyway, what made me think this was the lines: I know there's a hope There's too many people trying to help me cope You got a real short skirt I wanna look up, look up, look up, yeah yeah A hope for? Maybe him sort of taking control of himself and resisting temptation. (and there’s so many people trying to help him cope with this problem.. I don’t think this line refers to coping with her death, because in the song this is before he actually kills her, or at least before anyone would know of it to try to help him cope.) The temptation being him wanting to look up, look up, look up, her real short skirt, and have her. -- The basic idea is that he is with this girl, and he finds out about what she did, and wants revenge, and so takes her to some remote area by the beach so they can have sex, and then kills her. I agree with what someone said about the "we were just a good thing." That definitely seems like it is out of regret and anger at her that she did whatever she did to upset him and ruined what they had. He is thinking this right before he kills her because he really did love her and doesnt want to do this, but he thinks he has no choice. And there are voices in his head distracting him, maybe telling him not to do it, but he does it anyway. I think after he kills her he regrets it because of the line "fix these things that i've hurt" and also because there's no turning back now, the only thing he can do is "drive faster, boy" |
