Modest Mouse – Little Motel Lyrics 16 years ago
Watch what you like, listen to what you like and share with the world what you like. This is Isaac's stance.

The song touches you on so many levels with the lyrics, the music and the vocals. Then you add visuals (such as the video). You can't help but feel something when you "interact" with Little Motel.

Bottom line: Great song! It remains ambiguous enough to mean the beginning of death, the ending of love or anything in between.

Da Vinci, Picasso, Mouse!

The Shins – A Comet Appears Lyrics 18 years ago
I am still not sure what my entire take on this song is but I find the following lines very interesting:

Close your eyes to corral a virtue,
Is this fooling anyone else?
Never worked so long and hard,
To cement a failure,

We can blow on our thumbs and posture

In the Catholic church you pray by closing your eyes, kneeling on a pew and reverendly hold your hands together. A more poetic way to describe the action of praying in a stereotypical way would be the aforementioned lyrics.

The Shins – Phantom Limb Lyrics 18 years ago
Mercer is amazing. He has created art and now we all stand in awe surrounding its beauty while we discuss its meaning. Thank god he is alive and the meaning is not conjecture, but substantiated by the artist himself.

Modest Mouse – Beach Side Property Lyrics 18 years ago
I think:

"We're going union like they say
We'll buy the congregation
Then one day, you'll find us sitting
in your chairs with big ideas of stocks and shares."

Is a comedic reference to God's angels taking over heaven and running the business.

Ugly Casanova – Hotcha Girls Lyrics 18 years ago
I would like to add that dropping dimes on the ponies may be a vague reference to alcohol. The story is great and timeless. Anyone else think isaac failed at his attempts at a clever anagram to disguise Ugly Casanova (in order to dodge interview, retain creative interest in his music or hide from the police) ...and said fuck it...lets just call him edgar graham...ana gram...get it?

Conrad sings about alot of deep emotions and presents songs with depth, but many fans just like the hard guitar and screaming vocals that inspire there mosh pitting.

The Decemberists – O Valencia! Lyrics 19 years ago
Its not always about homosexuality. And I do agree with U4ia "They have a secret love, then someone finds out, the brother takes a shot at the lead, the girl runs in front of him, she dies. He swears revenge. " But not Romeo and Juliet-esque.

Modest Mouse – Beach Side Property Lyrics 19 years ago
Much like the figure head of any major company (or heaven) the employees (or the people) make the company. And while the CEO of Heaven (possibly God) fell asleep after he watched his seven days of hard work start to pay off..he forgot to check back on us...and now we are idlely destroying ourselves.

The Decemberists – The Gymnast, High Above the Ground Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about a love that will never be. The "best friend" who watches the blossoming 18teen year old neighbor go off to college only to return the following summer. He watches her from a distance (maybe through the curtains of his house), but she always seems to come back to her home and to him (her best friend). The Tarlatan holes could be the slightly spread cloth curtains. April may be her name or the last and long month before she returns in May. The gymnast (or the girl) is viewed and admired from a distance and he feels like he is the lighthouse leading her back home, when in fact she has started to forget about him.

The Decemberists – The Mariner's Revenge Song Lyrics 19 years ago
Unlike alot of the Decemberist's vivid tales of love and loss. This song is very easy to understand and interpret. Don't think to much into it. I always like to introduce this song as the gateway drug to a new and potential Decemberist fan.

Is there any topic or subject Meloy can't poetically/musically engineer into greatness?

The Decemberists – Leslie Ann Levine Lyrics 19 years ago
Meloy specifically tells us that 'we both go down together' is a song about a joint suicide...so it cannot be a prequel to LAL. Great song...and great opinions. Intelligent song writing definitely attracts intelligent audiences..which I love.

Modest Mouse – Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice on Ice, Alright Lyrics 19 years ago
1st off, the song is perfectly raw.

I think it's about people trying to be so "christian" and "pave their way to heaven" by being "holier than everyone else" that they lose focus on life. If you try to be like Jesus and walk on water..you will fail...even if you strap styrofoam to your feet. In theory styrofoam does float...but it is a cheap gimmick...much like televangelists.

2ndly, JOSHWAWAWA ..this is a sound board for Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice on Ice, Alright, not your opinions of "Float On." Which by the way is not "poppy crap" Mouse's last album is great..bottom line!

Modest Mouse – I've Got It All (Most) Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the song is simply about third party observations of very annoying people...which is basically 95% of the world (especially Mcscum). The Mouse is the Mouse...and just like boys become men...all people change to some degree...even musicians. There was a song written about people like you McScum...called Hooker with a Penis..look it up and go cry yourself to sleep...and don't get your hopes up...Brocks not gonna write a bad ass song about you!
