| The Decemberists – Shanty for the Arethusa Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Haunting, it evokes such dark imagery. I love how Colin's voice sounds when he sings the chorus. The maracas are a great touch too. | |
| The Decemberists – I Was Meant for the Stage Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Everytime I hear this song, my heart swells and fills up, and I'm just overcome with emotion. Colin ties a knot around your heartstrings. This song is so incredibly wistful to me. I don't think the character in the song reached his stardom yet. He's just dreaming. He's struggling and his visions of his grandeur are *just* tantalizingly out of reach. This song also brings to mind, "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages." |

This song was my first introduction to The Decemberists which I heard a few days ago. My sister heard I was feeling down and sent me the song to cheer me up. I was hooked. I now have a pretty hefty collection of their music in my head. This song will always be one of my fervent favorites. I think there is a slight err with the lyrics however. I feel that instead of 'Pinch doses of laudanum', I hear 'Pinched doses of laudanum'. Very minor, I know. And I also agree the lyric should be 'fear' and not 'feel'. |

| The Decemberists – Song for Myla Goldberg Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| His lyrical phrasings are always so impeccable. Everything is always seamless. I know Colin hides all sorts of easter eggs in his songs but it's tough for me to spot them since the melody is always so damn catchy. It's like mental hypnosis... Listen to that beat... | |
| The Decemberists – From My Own True Love (Lost at Sea) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is utterly melancholy to me. I hear it and my heart instantly yearns to be fulfilled. It tugs, it teases, and you're still left bereft. Such a beautiful song. Colin's voice sounds so raw. | |
| The Decemberists – Angel, Won't You Call Me? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| He uses corduroy here... that amuses me since corduroy was in Eli, the Barrow Boy. | |
| The Decemberists – A Cautionary Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I can't but wonder why Colin would use 'sorry' twice here. 'To keep her sorry tongue from any speaking, or screaming And they row her out to packets Where the sailor's sorry racket calls for maidenhead' And I also hear him whispering at the end. It sounded like, "That's it!" |
