John Mayer – The Heart of Life Lyrics

When I heard this song, I didn't think it was about breaking up at all. My interpretation has to do with the fact that I have an extremely pessimistic boyfriend, who's often finding things wrong with life and situations and possibilities for getting hurt and whatnot- but I'm always the optimistic one saying that you have to focus on the love in life, it's what makes that pain worth it and when you have friends around to remind you of the "silver lining" then the awful things don't seem so terrible |

John Mayer – Belief Lyrics

At first I thought this was about how so many people don't really know where there views and opinions come from on topics like politics and the war- if it was just "the paint on a sign". But, now I think it may be more about what thatguy5 said...what difference does it make to rally and scream your beliefs, who really changes their mind from seeing or hearing something like that? And if people do change their minds from that, blind faith is what can cause such pointless messes without real foundation for them. I'm just not sure which point of view works better with this song |

John Mayer – Slow Dancing in a Burning Room Lyrics

I agree, this is a totally different side of Mayer, he's usually very honest but this time it's in a harsh way. I think one part of this song is that he's trying to say to this girl she needs to face reality- deep down inside she knows it's ending soon. It's like he's saying come on, don't try and kid this any longer: you know it's got to end once and for all. But, even though he's being blunt, I love how he still manages to show that the relationship meant the world to him while it lasted.
"you're the only light I ever saw" great song. |

I saw this performed live and it is so beautiful. I love the sincerity in his voice and how it can bring tears to anyone's eyes who has ever felt the pain of knowing love just isn't enough sometimes. |
