this is the first u2 song i ever heard and loved. I was just 12 and, since I' m italian, i understood absolutely nothing of it still i love it so much. I read the lyric when i was 17 or something like it...but actually i though i already knew what the song was about- it had already said something to me. I' ve always felt like it's about someone who cannot feel this life, who cannot feel alive. And there' s a lover- an angel- who wonders "you say when he hits you you don' mind.." Someway, that' s very miserable, it 's about a very lonely being, but someone who cannot even feel how very detached from life he is- he doesn' t even suffer anymore, just "when he hits you you feel alive". The video was quite a sad thing as well- people just wandering around, alone. The end of it it ' s hopefull. This song breaks my heart. |
