I think Chevelle songs create a very interesting situation for this sight. To me they have always been a band too scared or ashamed to release or be labeled on their beliefs, but their songs make it quite obvious where they lie. I see the whole theme of Sci-Fi Crimes as an album that expresses things that take people away from Christianity. What I don't respect about this band is how they try to hide their true intentions and try to act like some polar opposite. |

With Chevelle's constant conservative theme and mocking of liberalism to their songs, this song is definitely about abortion, as mandrake and maybe others above mentioned. Pete's lyrics are usually very vague, but I think this song pushes the subject a lot more than most. The song is very "poppy", anyone else ever imagine a boy band getting away with singing this song? It grew on me the second I heard it. |

Nothing like a bunch of rapper mispronouncing/identifying drugs they think they're getting high on.
Let me be your delinquent professor: OxyContin, fentanyl Patches, 4Mar. |

In co-dependent relationships, especially with the inclination of drugs, there is always that mushy pseudo-emotion "we'll always be here for each other no matter what" which becomes a blanket of comfort. Trent seems to be expressing when that blanket is ripped off and cold water (truth) is suddenly and overwhelmingly thrown upon him. The end to this song is such an emotional release. |

This song rocks beyond measure. I love the amphibian (lower species) theme. |

Seems to be about keeping your original nature and not getting sucked up in ego or worldly-selfish ways. Try to find live versions of this song, absolutely amazing. |

I really enjoyed zelda011's interpretation. As you said with pagans worshipping women, and the Christian faith eliminating or "fucking" that religion. I think it's a continuum to the fact Christians are "fucking" mother-earth. |

This is definitely a stab at religion.

I love all these small-minded references to narcotics. I'm almost positive none of Tool's songs have been motivated by actual opiate use. |

Try playing this song on the guitar & analyze why it's so difficult, study the function of our corpus callosum, and actually THINK of the meaning of lateralus as well as the theme throughout the album. Hopefully this will open some of the sheep minds I see lurking this site.

| Chevelle – Well Enough Alone Lyrics

I seemed to interpret this song about suicide, and the failure to deal with the emotions/pain that built up to the act of 'leaving.'
In general, the song relates to many other Chevelle songs in wondering/asking why people are too hung up on pride and laziness to problem solve, and would rather eternally live in turmoil avoiding pain or confrontation with others or parts of themselves. |

| Chevelle – Brainiac Lyrics

The lyrics are completely off. But I don't think it has anything to do with Joe leaving the band. Seems to be another attack of our western Psychiatry methods. By "brainiac" he's referring to psychiatrists using their "pill will cure everything" methods instead of teaching constructive methods or 'tools' to get out of neurosis or whatever their situation.
I'm starting to think Pete is a supporter of Skinner and Pavlov. |

storyteller put the nail in the coffin. many were so quick to jump on the Jung bandwagon, which could have some correlation to the message. But if you pay attention to the lyrics "Listen to my (muscle memory)
Contemplate what I've been clinging to
Forty six and two ahead of me" the theory of Nagualism comes shining right through the "shadow." |
