I don't think the father is dead, either. I think he left. There are a lot of songs about fathers leaving, aren't there? But this song is separated from them, because he's not bitter towards his father, and can forgive him. That's what makes this one even more powerful. I absolutely love this song. |

iknowbob94, that's one way of looking at it, and it looks like it kind of makes sense, but I don't think that's right. I think that the straight line is any sin we partake in to obtain instant gratification (be it drugs, porn, pride). But this gratification does last.
Like I said before I think "The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips" is really referring to the shed blood of Jesus, and how eternal joy only comes from salvation. |

This is meant to be a more sarcastic song. The righteous don't need grace, but those who think they're righteous do. The Pharisees took the law and adapted it in such a way that they could accuse others of sin and call themselves righteous. They didn't think they needed grace. It's like a lot of the church, today. They accuse others of sin when they don't even realize how much wrong their doing. |

| Switchfoot – Amateur Lovers Lyrics

born2xl, are you suggesting that Switchfoot doesn't care about lyrics? I've never heard a single Switchfoot song that didn't have some sort of spiritual meaning, and they obviously put a lot of thought into their lyrics.
The song is obviously about how love is taken advantage of, and how a lot of us really have no idea what love is. We try all the time and cry at night because we don't have what we want (the fake love), but we don't know that we don't even need it.
The song doesn't openly talk about God's love, but if there's a fake love, then there has to be a real love. The real love is what we should be looking for. |

This song is one of the most amazing song I've ever heard. I've never felt so scared of death until I heard the beginning of the song, but the end really comforts me. Jon Foreman's solo is amazing. |

I kind of agree with BloodyEnvy. As much as I hate Marilyn Manson, this song is kind of out of line.
I really like Relient K, and I'm really glad that they've matured since this album. Their first album is so terrible. I'm glad they're starting to take their lyrics more seriously. |

"The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips"
I think that line really has to do with Communion. The wine represents the blood of Jesus Christ which we are cleansed by and forgiven of our sins. |
