| The Used – The Bird and the Worm Lyrics | 18 years ago |

To me, this song sounds like it's a gay kid who's trying to convince himself he's straight because he lives with people who aren't tolerant. Or a closet gay kid who lives with people who aren't tolerant. "Shot down by strangers whose glances can cripple the heart and devour the soul" ...I think describes the people who would not accept him for who he is. "All alone he turns to stone While holding his breath half to death" I would guess this describes him not telling anyone his 'secret', and that's killing him. "Terrified of what’s inside To save his life He crawls like a worm from a bird" I think maybe this describes the fact that he doesn't want to be gay? He's trying to "crawl" away from the fact that he might be gay. But, like a bird catching a worm, he can't escape. "Out of his mind the way pushes him, whispering Must have been out of his mind Midday delusions of pushing this out of his head Make him out of his mind (out of his mind)" He thinks about it constantly, and desperatly wants to tell somebody. And it's driving him crazy. "All he knows If he can’t relieve it, it grows And so it goes He crawls like a worm, crawls like a worm from a bird" The more he tries to deny it, the more it comes it. But he continues trying to convince himself he's not gay, but it doesn't work. I don't think this song is about anyone in particular... but I think it's just describing what a kid like that goes through... |

I think this song expresses a deep desire for a certain female figure in GG's life. She obviously never gave him a chance, but he MADE her. Makes me all teary-eye'd |

I think it's about change. He's been away from this girl for a long, and he's changed a lot since they last saw each other. But he did it for her, but is still afraid she might not like the change. ("I've got a lot to tell you about me That wont go over well...well i dont care") The "you can't turn off that you're dead" part, I think means that he can't change back. What he used to be, and who he is now are two different people. He can't change that. And if he did, he wouldn't feel like him. The old him is gone. Orrr, second thought, he might have changed to impress other people. (Like in Remember to Feel Real) But the girl didn't like the change, so she stopped hanging out with him. And that was a big loss for her and he knows that. |
