I think PerfectIsRelative hit it on the head on page 2. There are a couple themes running through the album. The breakup from her babydaddy and what seems to be a new relationship that is not fully formed, out in the open, official and steady - yet. But she's so into this person and believes it can work. However, he has yet to commit or fully allow the relationship to materialize. If you put together Wait for You, Showtime and Say It Right, you see her hopeful feelings. He means "nothing" because he's not really her man, but could mean "everything" if their relationship could move forward. Meanwhile she's sort of at his mercy and has to shut off a part of her feelings for him, or it hurts her. |

Before the Loose album was released, her 4-year relationship with the father of her daughter ended. The lyrics speak to finding the strength inside to make a challenging decision and face an uncertain future, or face judgement. The following, especially could relate to her relationship: |

She speaks to the tendency to replace one addiction, obsession, passion, vice, desire, for another and another...generally masking over unhappiness and discontent with oneself. When you get what you were after, does it make you happy? A relationship, a shopping binge, a promotion? Anything? I think the line "you think one drink will shrink you 'til you're underground and living down" refers to Alice in Wonderland, when Alice drinks something that shrinks her and enables her to enter the teeny doorway. So you think this next thing in your life will take you to your Wonderland where everything's new and different. Of course, it never does. |
