A lot of people seem not to get the relevance of the Internet stars... but to me it's quite clear – these people are just doing their thing and are seen as strange and outsiders.. but aren't worried by popularity or commercialism. |

Did a large procession wave their torches as my head fell in the basket
This seems to me like this person was executed by a riot (á la the French Revolution). "wave their torches" conjures up images of an unruly riot just as "head fell in the basket" makes me think of a disembodied head rolling off a guillotine into a basket.
Anyway, the gist of the song is a procrastinator who is too lazy to do the things he wants/doesn't have anything they want to do. In the end they die and regret not doing anything. TMBG use the metaphor of a 'bag of groceries' (the person) 'taken off the shelf' (passed away) 'before the expiration date' (early).
One line that puzzles me is "I came back as a bag of groceries'. Does anyone have any personal interpretations?
Anyway, one of my favourite TMBG songs - although there are so many greats to choose form though :( |

Today's society encourages you to be perfect and for you to be the best, yet this is impossible to achieve, and the fact that when this is achieved (as demonstrated through this hypothetical character) - something doesn't seem right and it isn't perfect. Life seems boring and incomplete and inhuman.
This song is a piece of musical GENIUS (and I very rarely use that word). It's simultaneously depressing and inspirational and really striking. I bought O.K. Computer a few months ago, and this track instantly stands out (because of lack of beat and computerised voice).
My favourite line is "pragmatism not idealism" which purely reflects anything vaguely political nowadays.
Amazing. |

I think that this song talks about the media and how a horrific tragedy is recorded forever and often horrifically twisted. I also think that the line, "A public service announcement followed me home" refers to the media being everywhere - almost like a Big Brother-esque situation. |

I just love the ominous, somewhat creepy e-bowed guitar sounds in the background. It just makes this song! |

1) Yes I have noticed that the introduction sounds uncannily like that of Somewhere Only We Know!
2) Just a very spontaneous thought - could this be possibly a reply of some sort to Nirvana's "Something In The Way" or do you reckon that it's just name flukes? |

Ha, it's funny how I grew to love this song - after I heard the Weird Al parody! Great, powerful ballad by Mr. Joel here! |

I think this is a beautiful song - I was hoping to see Keane in concert but tickets sold out too quickly :'(. It is definitely about a fighter (evidently a plane fighter) in WWII, based on W.B. Yeat's "An Irishman Forsees His Death". Regarding its title, it is related to dreams, and Keane have said it starts slow dreamy and builds up to be loud and angry. Beautiful music. |

I think I interpret it as someone who is homeless. If you've seen the music video, it is a claymation of someone who seems to be homeless living in what seem like toilets, and he is "set free" only to have the public laugh at him. If you haven't seen the video, try looking on YouTube, I'm sure someone will have added it. |
