| Drake – Marvin's Room Lyrics

I love this song for the subtle manipulation. He knows she is alone with her boyfriend out and her friends still partying. He plays on their history and her unease of how her current relationship will eventually play out. He appeals to vanity by talking about her even with all the other women around and saying that they are all the same (but she isn't). He says he needs her to cut through the fake while reminding her how rich and famous he is now.
You can bet that if any of her friends tell her "you can do better" she is going to remember this. Not to mention the drunkenness gives him an excuse not to remember and improves the likelihood that she believes he is telling her the truth. Even a no is laying groundwork for the future. Impressive. |

| Lykke Li – I'm Good I'm Gone Lyrics

I saw the video and from it, I think the boxing thing was metaphorical (you know, fighting to the top). From the dancers she used, especially all in business attire, I think that this was not a personal message about her life or trying for just her to get ahead. It was more about everyone aiming high in their jobs and careers. If you want to get more specific, the women in the video were all following and fighting the men, so it could be a comment about sexism in the workplace. At the end, it seemed that everyone spinning on the floor was carving out their own place.
I want to add that the video is being offered free on itunes until 10/20/08. |

Just wanted to add that the background was sampled from The Carpenter's cover of "Please Mr. Postman." Check it out. |

Does anyone think that she means that she puts the boys literally on crank after she blows kisses at them, since they can't get her (not promiscuous) they seek another means to get "high"? It would certainly make her more conceited, but seems to make sense. |

This cry of independence and self-worth is one of Beyonce's best songs vocally, where she uses her powerful voice to finally convey some of the emotion that some of her other songs have hinted at. |

"and if you could put dumb in a shotglass"
it sounds like numb to me, and that makes a lot more sense, especially in the context of the songs other lyrics |

| AFI – Miss Murder Lyrics

I think that Miss Murder is about seeking immortality. A man whose life was defined by his appearance killed himself so preserve his beauty in the mind of the public. But his image fades because he is just an "empty set." Only the beauty of things like music last "spiraled down" into the future.
So according to the lyrics, the answer to the question is "no." |
