| Journey – Send Her My Love Lyrics

An underrated ballad in my opinion, and should of charted higher than it did. The way Steve's emotions come through in this song are hauntingly brilliant. Whilst Faithfully deals with being in love with someone whilst being on the road, this deals with the breakup of a relationship due to the same circumstances.
In the song, he recalls the 'sad cafe' where the breakup most likely happened. He then goes on to recount the 'same hotel' and 'the same old room' where he spent his nights whilst on tour.
After which he says that she needed so much more than he could give, meaning that he couldn't see her as often as he would like. The last chorus is where I think his emotion really shines through.
He obviously still thinks about this girl and still cares very deeply about her, as he calls out her name in his sleep, and can still see reflections of her face, as well as the sound of her voice haunting him. |

To me think it's about a second chance, and I can relate to that. Me and my girlfriend recently broke up, and I live in hope that we can make another go of it. We're right for each other, just not now and I think this song pretty much sums it up. |

This is definately one of my all time favourite driving songs, I play this when I'm out on a drive with my friends, volume up and the windows down. I'd love to know who Maryanne is though, as on Boston's site it only states that Maryanne is someone who is very close to Tom..... |

The reaper is a reference to the Grim Reaper, a traditional personification of death in European-based folklore. Lyrics such as "Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity" have led many listeners to interpret the song to be about a murder-suicide pact, though Roeser has attempted to explain it as just a song about love lasting for eternity. |

If you read the liner notes in Misplaced Childhood, Fish had this song when he was on an acid trip, and most of the band members were against having Fish's ex girlfriend used in a song, but they went ahead with it, and now, thanks to them 95% of Kayleigh's in the UK are named after that song, my fiancee included lol. |

I love this song. Two of the band members were going through divorce proceedings at the time this was written and that's what it's about, but it also became every teenagers break up song lol. |

If I remember correctly, Steve Went over to Jon's house one rainy afternoon with the melody in his head, Jon started playing it on the piano, and he said to Steve "This sounds like a somebody's done somebody else wrong song" and they finished it that afternoon. Steve also fought for the guitar solo at the end because the record company wanted it off because they feared the radio stations wouldn't play it as the song is over 5 minutes long. |

Deen has an incredible voice, I've listened to him sing the likes of Faithfully, Who's Crying Now and Open Arms, and it's freaky how much he sounds like Steve Perry. |

IMO this is one of the most under-rated power ballads ever to be written. Send Her My Love reminds me of my first girlfriend, we broke up after 7 months because of the distance. I don't think Steve Perry wrote this song for anyone specific, however he puts so much emotion into the song, you can't help but wonder, especially on the last verse: "Calling out her name I'm dreaming, reflections of her face I'm seeing, it's her voice that keeps on haunting me". |
