To me, this song is about being trapped in a relationship that isn't good for you but you feel you can't leave. You know that its over and the right thing to do is get on with your life ("walk away from the ashes"), but you keep coming back. You don't want to be back in their bed, but you end up there anyways and it just makes you miss them all over again. You never thought it would be so hard to end it and move on, but now you're trapped and everything is falling apart ("breakin' down, sails fallin off...") but for some reason you keep trying to make it work ("...trying to stay afloat inside a place we can't survive") I have a tattoo of this song, its a clipper ship in a bottle going up the side of my ribs. I got it when I thought I finally broke out of my bottle, so to speak. I didn't. |

The guy is singing about a relationship or something. When the girl sings, she is "the heart". "Alright, I can say what you want me to Alright, I can do all the things you do Alright, I'll make it all up for you I'm still in love with you I'm still in love with you" The heart is gonna let this guy say whatever he wants to other people, and his heart is gonna allow him to do all the things he does whether it agrees with his actions or not. But at the part "I'll make it all up for you", his heart gives up and can't stand to watch this guy screw around anymore: he should just tell the girl he's singing about he's still in love with her. |

The (????) line should be: "The black on our fingers smeared the ink on every door pulled shut" I think it ties in with the crosswords line above it. When you are mad at the person you live with, there is not much to do. You don't want to watch TV. You'd be in the same room. So you do crosswords. At first, I thought this song was about moving homes, but now I think its more about breaking up with a live-in girlfriend/boyfriend. The first verse I think has to do with the living stituation, where things are going downhill and they are deciding to end it or whatever "we were meant to if we tried". And I think the second verse describes how lonely the speaker is once they have moved out, seeing people on the subway, and seeing their ex breifly in a public place. In the rooms that used to be full of life, there is only sun. Maybe it takes like eight minutes for the sunlight to reach earth from ninety million miles away? |

| I think that this song is about a bus driver's relationship with a reglular commuter. For some reason, the commuter no longer takes his bus. The relationship never evolved to be anything of substance, so the driver is looking back on the time spent with the commuter; comparing them to the onther, angier commuters and longing for them to take the bus again. The driver regrets never telling the commuter their feelings. "My chance to say something seemed so frequent--it was, and now I know I had plenty of time". | |

This song is really good. I like the line "remember how I'm sorry that I miss the way it could be" I think this song is about someone moving away, and then looking back on the city where they used to live, and realizing that life is going on for most people the way it was. |
