I think this song is flat-out about Bipolar Disorder. Not just because he mentions it in the beginning but the actual lyrics. Relapse prevent Trigger Intent Now Drown High Strung Say X Amount of Words When you have Bipolar Disorder you have the highs and lows. You try to avoid a "relapse" of a manic or depressive phase. The drowning part is the dark depression that you fall into and the high strung is the mania when everything you do is with purpose. Your solar bipolar panic Disorder seems Harder and Harder and Harder Still you try to control it Bipolar Disorder and anxiety go hand in hand. It's like you're constantly worrying about hitting a high or a low. It's like the disorder completely takes over your life and even if you really stay on top of it, there's no way to stop the ups and downs. The longer you've been going through it, the harder it gets because you just get tired of it. You mold you mold Yeah you shape to mold Oh you're bold you're bold But your shape is bold You try everything you possibly can in order to be like everyone else but in the end it feels like you stick out like a sore thumb. When a high or a low hits and you're around a lot of people you have to pretend that you're fine but people know you're not. (We're recording you) I could go a few ways with this one. -When people that know you when you're on a high or when you're at a rare time and you actually have a solid baseline of your mood and then your mood completely changes and it's like you become a different person, they think you're faking. They think you're trying to get attention. There's such a stigma around Bipolar Disorder where many people don't want to be anywhere near someone with it because they think the person is just gonna suddenly "go crazy" and flip out. The "we're recording you" part could be how people are always constantly watching you. Especially when you have any degree of fame (like a successful band). OR I, personally, interpret it as when you're in a psychiatric hospital, you're on suicide watch and they see every movement you make. When you have to go to the bathroom, they're right outside the door (literally). Some rooms actually do have cameras where they literally record you. Your brain is faulty wiring The reason for tiring Keep treating the curse Imagine the worst Systematic, Sympathetic Quite pathetic, Apologetic Paramedic Your heart is prosthetic You blame the chemical imbalance in your brain for everything. You get tired of dealing with the constant mood swings. You still take your meds, go through your coping skills, see your therapist but all you can think is "oh, God. when is it gonna hit? how bad is it gonna be? am i gonna try to kill myself?" It's a constant cycle of being normal-ish and then you get manic. And you're manic for a while and then you come down and go into depression. People constantly have opinions about you as soon as you mention the disorder. They feel bad for you but don't really understand. Or they think that you should be able to suck it up. And then you get the people who are like "oh, i'm so sorry!" but they really don't care. You get the people that tell you that you need to see a doctor. There are people that think that just because you take medications to regulate your mood, your feelings aren't real. You don't have a real heart because your emotions aren't "organic". People think you're just straight up weird. But it's almost like when you're depressed, you'll do whatever it takes just to be happy again. You just want to be able to feel true happiness without having to take medication. So you self-medicate with nothing other than alcohol.
