This song is slagging off the group Television... Idiot Box is slang for a Television.... 'Tumbling you made me art' in the first verse is 'Tom Verlaine you maybe art'... 'Billy Singer' is 'Billy Ficca'... 'Old Friend Smith' is 'Old Fred Smith'... I dont know what Television did to annoy The Damned though. |

There is a song by English punk band The Damned called 'Life Goes On' from the early eighties that has the same sentiment as 'Everybody Hurts, though not as eloquently put/well sung... I wonder whether Michael Stipe ever heard this song? |
