| Pendulum – The Other Side Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| All I know is this song reminds me of dissociatives like Dextromethorphan and Ketamine. I think this song is a bit too abstract to really pinpoint into anything specific. Other than that there is this 'presence' that you can not escape that is everywhere you look, and it knows that you are special. You need this concept to come to fruition or you will never stop ruminating over it. The gates of hell could be the struggle you endure in trying too understand the cosmos and the realization of your true nature in this universe. | |
| Muse – Space Dementia Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Ok this is a pretty far off interpretation from most, but this is what I got out of the song. The song, as far as I am conscerned, is sort of an exploration into a very nihilistic philosophy about the universe. The universe is a vast and cold and terrible uncaring organism. This is why the singer is trying to "coexist with the chill", 'the chill' being that terrible feeling of emptiness in the vast nothingness of space (likely to induce the titular Space Dementia), The universe plays sick dirty tricks on us and we can not help but simultaneously hate it and yet strive to extend our short lived existence on our planet. The universe makes us want to die because it is showing us its own pain in existing. It wants us to feel its pain, which is why it exists an expands in the first place. It is drawing itself out in the hopes that something can develop out of it and bring it to its conclusion. In forcing a life form to feel its pain, it hopes that we can somehow destroy the world (universe) for it. Sentient life is ultimately an effort for the universe to commit suicide, because it can not do it by itself. 'Peace' will arise in theh end by bringing the universe to a state of nothingness, and once again, we can be without pain, experience, or meaning, just like all that time outside of its existence in the first place. | |
| The Faint – Forever Growing Centipedes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I agree with sanguinariness. This song is about time in either the 4th or 5th dimension. It is said that if we were able to look at a person from the 4th dimension they would look like a centipede because you are watching their progress through time simultaneously - like if you've ever played an old FPS game, gone into clipping mode, and then seen a trail of your weapon when you step outside the map boundaries because the graphics don't get rid of what happened in the past and it all meshes together. The lyrics seem to touch heavilly on this aspect though I too first thought it was more about scientific progress. I love the refrences to the old game. Centipedes are my favorite organisms. Now what this means on a deeper level I do not know. I'm not farmiliar with the faint and I'm not sure if they just designed the song to talk about a scientific concept. It seems to relate to the choices we are able to make - with the previously mentioned model looking in the 5th dimension instead of the fourth I think we would look like centipedes branching out in different directions looking at all the possibilities you can engage in through time leading to different outcomes: "every time I move I'm in another dimension" because every time he makes the choice (if it is a choice) to do something he alters the course of reality deviating from his previous centipede path and starting a new one (or maybe just taking it in a different direction?) No matter what, though, he can only follow one path throughout life. ("I can just choose one as far as I can tell.") This is a great song and the only song I've ever heard even mentioning centipedes, which deserve more respect. Really glad I was introduced to it and I feel like I got more out of this song than I do from most music I listen to. |

| Muse – Stockholm Syndrome Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The song meaning seems straightforward to me. I'm going to have to guess that this song is examining Stockholm Syndrome more metaphorically than literally, and it's not supposed to convey the notion that the singer is actually in a hostage situation. He's probably talking about a significant other, and the relationship he's involved in, which although ultimately terrible and detrimental to his well-being, he can't just seem to resist. It seems to be a common theme in a lot of Muse songs. "and we'll fly and we'll fall and we'll burn" refers to the fact that he's willing to go "all the way" with the person, even if it ultimately results in their destruction. "I wish I could" is the artist stating that although he wishes he could just break away and dissociate himself from the person, he can't; just a the hostage can't seem to help but feel sympathy for their capturer. | |
