This song parallels The Scarlet Letter. Used that in an English presentation. 7 years-span of the novel The holy ghost leaving...Dimmesdale getting Hester pregnant. I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm not sure...Dimmesdale always indecisive. Getting off my chest...He was always clutching his chest and may have put his own scarlet letter there. Does anybody think the green eyes could be a Great Gatsby reference? In the novel they eyes pretty much represented most basically false hope/emptyness. I see alot of that in this song. |

When it's an allegory of God's love for us: "you will kill me by doing nothing"- We hurt God when we care about him only enough to spend 3 minutes in prayer, basically nothing. I can also see it as someone trying to help a materialistic person. |

punkkid6312 has it right. Sin offends God and essentially breaks his heart. (song title) First he is sad b/c he can't seem to break free from the sin (No different than yesterday). Then he is disgusted with what he has done (sick from the mirror). He prays/repents (do these prayers feel sincere?). He finally gets over his sin/satan (grew to love YOUR LIES until I put YOU in the past...Until you revealed the MAN behing the mask.) Satan decieves. He still feels pain from his past and wonders how he will go on in this world (will the scars go away in this world i have no place) Surrenders completely to Jesus and asks Jesus to give him strength and cleanse him b/c he can't on his own. (alone it never did me any good hold me close, wash my mind) New life in Christ, old self dies...(Destroy the me that lives inside). |
