This is a story about treating women poorly and the remorse he feels about it. Almost a Jekyll and Hyde bit. A tongue-in-cheek excuse for his scoundrel ways. |

I think "granite laid" refers to the granite headstone we all will likely be laid beneath. And the white sheet is just another reference to death- as in the white sheet they pull over you on your deathbed.
The last stanza seems to elude to a "we all die alone" concept. Not sure if that was what he was going for. Just something I hear. |

After hearing that last line, I shuddered as I realized he was drowning himself. It's not only an ending to a song, but an ending for the whole album. A very haunting bit of closure for the lonliness described throughout the entire recording...Chilling. And Perfect. |
