| Mineral – Five, Eight, and Ten Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I don't think the "Five, Eight, and Ten" title is referring to the numbers in Revelation. That list of numbers includes some definite articles as the number one and excludes other definite articles for no apparent reason so it isn't even a correct list of the numbers in that passage of Revelation. I always just assumed that the numbers in the title were referring to ages. | |

| Not to overdue the idea of relating Mineral to Christianity, but there lyrics do reference the Bible a lot and it is necessary (relating a song lyric to its references) to understand the completeness of a song's purpose. So just to expand on this song I want to mention Ephesians 4:26b, "do not let the sun go down on your wrath." He's bitter with himself for allowing his anger, spite, or frustration to continue with someone longer than it should have. He had the opportunity to forgive them, talk to them, or confront the problem but instead he merely soaked in it watching it progress inside of himself. | |

| Good job understanding most of those lyrics sean and darkershade. Maybe we're not supposed to know what these lyrics say completely. Even on Deep Elm they aren't listed: http://www.deepelm.com/sum/386_sum.html | |

Good insight Manxbass. Personally I'd choose a balance (somehow) of your two explanations. "Hey sorrow where are you Tomorrow just won't be the same Without you here I'll wish for shoulders bold and broad to bear And strength to hold my head above them" It seems that whatever sorrow he was facing can be overcome, but with a struggle that requires some kind of strength. "I want to be the clay in your hands" Going with this metaphor it would seem that some sort of determinism or destiny is present. How that balances with him being strong is another issue though. Perhaps whoever has the hands the clay is in gives him the motivation or strength? |

I know that the lyrics aren't totally correct, I transcribed this one by ear and I couldn't catch anything. If anyone has more correct ones and they'd like me to edit it just email me rotents@gmail.com Here's some information about the song from The Awkward Romance: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=3240892&blogID=156991627&MyToken=bdf078b4-5941-451b-95c6-22c9e4ee4595 |

| The Awkward Romance – Blue Sunday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is about how dangerous tradition and ritual religious observances can be. They say, "monotony leaves only apathy", which shows that if everyone adheres to a certain standard of feelings and emotion then no one will care anymore; their emotions won't mean anything, and that is "as good as [lying]". When he enters places that worship or maintain those kind of rituals he gets feelings that "are the kind that [he abhors]." And so because of the depressive state that those traditions bring he labels it "Blue Sunday" where everyone does "the same things". And then to go further he says that those kinds of things actually lead to "dreary souls" and these "deadened men" will only lead "deadened lives". |

This song is about people making opinions about others based merely on their aesthetic qualities. They say, "mohawks and dyes - nothing but lies" to illustrate that the way someone looks does not define who they are. "pre-conceived notions and quiet whispers" further shows that people are devising their opinions of someone based on the stereotype(pre-conceived notions) that person seems to align with. |

Okay first of all, for people that read that interview, the interview does not say that Mineral's songs were not about Christianity. It says that he didn't want Mineral to be a front or public icon for Christians. I think that he didn't want that is because he was curious in his youth and he was experimenting with Christianity. Some of Mineral's songs most likely include some biblical principles. Second of all, it is true that song writers typically write songs that mean a certain thing. But that doesn't mean that listeners can't allow it to apply to different circumstances in their life. That's the beauty of music: the power that music has. Thirdly, there is no need to tell people to stop relating certain songs to certain subjects, even if people do that to every song for a band. The prompt for leaving a comment on this page is "What does this song mean to you?", not the reader that's reading your comment but you. So who cares if people keep saying that Chris Simpson is talking about the Bible. Let them believe the song means that. We aren't here to argue what a song means to the song writer, we can never know that for sure. Even if a song writer says it means something they could be lying or if they tell the truth they can't possibly explain everything the song meant to them when they wrote it. We should be using this comment system to describe the greatness of the music and how the music applies to us. So now for what this song is about. I think it's about improving your life in general, whether it be by making a spiritual decision or loving a girl. Life is filled with so much depression and horror, it's important that we seek to change that in our lives. |
