I do not believe that this song is about being gay, or bisexual as Davey during an interview said that he uses “he” in one verse and “she” in another to distinguish between two different relationships and avoiding the potential confusion that may be caused by saying she twice. Let’s call “he” lover #1 and “she” lover #2. He says that soul mates are is designated to you before birth, like destiny and you can't change the way you feel about this person, in his case lover #1, as it is a love that lasts forever and does not leave your system (It's in the blood, it's in the blood. I met my love before I was born). Because of this he warns to potential lovers not to get attached to him, as his love is cold and hallow; he will never be able to fully love again because of the heartbreak of his parting with lover #1 (Warn your warmth to turn away. Here it's December every day). If you do wind up in a relationship with him, as he is desirable, yet cold in lover #1’s absence (Attractive to others, but cold in lover # 1’s absence), therefore it will only end in tragedy as he is frozen, like a sculpture, in a state of frigidity and incapability to love since his heartbreak (Press your lips to the sculptures and surely you'll stay (Love like winter)).He begins a new relationship with lover #2 but feels no devotion to her, he does not truly love her; she is not reserved in a precious spot in his heart.
