I highly doubt it was a song based purely on making fun of other songs, also...i don't believe it was based SOLELY on the black dahlia, sure she inspired it. Who cares. I mean honestly, who really cares? People spend so much time, debating music. "It's this, it's that, it's this, it's that " people are always saying it's overrated. And it's too mainstream. OF COURSE IT'S GOING TO GO MAINSTREAM because they're so fucking popular. WHo really cares though. As long as they continue making good music to those who APPRECIATE them ( me being one of them ) who gives a flying fuck, what those who keep complaining about them, think? if you don't like them, fine.
