Really the song pretty appropriately describes how all music subcultures grow out of control until the creativity is long gone and it's nothing more than an industry to mass produce and feed to eager consumers. You can follow the timeline detailed in this song in virtually any music scene that has grown from nothing into prominence. The song is timeless for that fact.

You listened to this entire song and you didn't pick up on the point about how dressing up in your counter culture uniform is still conforming? You're dressing up like a punk because that is the style that has been laid out for you. Punk, prep, yuppie, hippie, it's all just a fashion statement. You don't have to be a walking billboard to love something. In fact, that kind of consumer dedication is pretty decidedly anti-punk. Drop the fad, be yourself.

This is one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard because it creates an atmosphere and traps you in it literally for the length of the track. Its the most atmospheric song that I can personally list. It captures the 'Everything is NOT going to be OK' moral of A Scanner Darkly PERFECTLY.

Her Space Holiday – Something To Do With My Hands Lyrics

Yea alot of people really miss Marc's trend's in writing his albums. They tend to have a common subject/mood. For instance, the past presents the future is a much more upbeat album because he met someone he really enjoys, and you can hear it in almost every song on the album. The Young Machines, he is cheating on his girlfriend with a girl who has a boyfriend, but people pretty much look at every song like "Poor marc!" haha. I love Her Space Holiday because he is very self aware, and has no problem making himself look bad. People just don't really have a concept of that. Much like Tim Kasher from Cursive, I really enjoy honest writers.

Her Space Holiday – My Girlfriend's Boyfriend Lyrics

This song isn't about his ex-girlfriend. He was seeing his bestfriend's girlfriend. The album's are all written with a medium, Young Machine's was him seeing a girl that was already involved with someone. Listen to the song 'Something to do with my hands' where he blatently talks about how his girlfriend and the other girl's boyfriend don't know that they are seeing each other. I love this song and this album, but you have to realize that he's not the victim, Marc is victimizing other people throughout the entire album.

Alkaline Trio – Sundials Lyrics

This is one of my favorite Alk Trio songs. I mean, its valid to say that, most of the songs have alcohol mentioned in them, but they aren't all about booze. It, along with Coke, is just how Skiba copes with things and problems in life, it is usually mentioned in their songs, but rarely is the entire subject. Sun Dials is about being with someone that you just can't stand anymore. You fuck each other just to do it. You fight about everything, you fuck, you fight, you fuck, but whats the point? What good is this relationship anymore? The world is passing them by, and all they do is hold each other back. They are going nowhere. Trust me on this one, I identify with this song very much.
